Letter to the Editor: "Different Take On Morality." |
|
From today's Hartford Courant:
Different Take On Morality
Twenty-two percent of exiting voters polled Tuesday declared the most important issue determining their choice of candidate was that of values or morals. This issue of morality topped the other three - the economy, terrorism and Iraq. Nearly 80 percent of these moral-issue voters chose President Bush over Sen. Kerry.
These voters apparently believe President Bush is a moral man and that he acts in a moral way and lives his faith.
I respectfully disagree.
I think it is immoral to rape the environment to line the pockets of big oil and timber, and to ignore scientific research and global warming. It is immoral to send soldiers into battle without adequate supplies or without exhausting all means of avoiding the war in the first place.
It is immoral to deny medical insurance to any citizen, and to force the elderly to choose between medicine and food. It is immoral to exclude some children from an adequate education, and to reduce taxes on the wealthy while taking away services from single-parent families.
Those who support President Bush for his views on morality must define morality differently than I do.

that your ideas about morality are more in line with the teachings of a guy named Jesus! (Those people need to read their gospels)
