Senator Durbin to run for Democratic Whip
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 08:51 PM by jefferson_dem
Looks like we will have Senate Minority Leader Reid. Heard the other day that Dodd will not challenge him for that position. Now Durbin has announced he will run for Reid's vacated second in command slot, perhaps to the chagrin of some here who were hoping he would shoot higher. Any possibilities other than Reid?

Senator Durbin to run for Democratic Whip

November 5, 2004 — In the same week that Barack Obama won a seat in the U-S Senate, another state democrat is poised to move further up the political ladder. Today, Senator Dick Durbin announced that he will run for a democratic leadership position in the senate and it looks like he could have a successful run.

Barack Obama's a rising star in the Democratic Party but in practical terms, he's a newcomer in the minority party and has zero political clout. Republican Alan Keyes says he won't even call to congratulate the winner because Obama represents a "culture of evil that's destroying the heart and soul of the country." As for the other democratic senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin's already lined up enough votes to become the democratic whip, the number two guy in charge of legislation.
