Me & my Gay brothers & sister! Go ahead & get the tar & feathers, Go ahead & kick us while we are down, forget that 11 States just told us that we are the scum of the earth & don't deserve rights as American citizens that are afforded to you, that God forbid my SO is in an accident & they won't let me see him because were not family, forget that if he should die & left me in his will his family will take it to court & leave me out on the street! Forget tha fact that there are still many places we can't walk hand & hand together. Forget the fact that I pay my fucking taxes just like you!

If we lost because of the gay issue, then I am damned proud of it. If we had to lose there is no more honorable way to lose then fighting for a just cause.

I agee, Stocat.
But, like I've said before, this whole thing is a big racket. The 'ministers,' 'pastors,' or whatever need $ coming in. They have to be fighting something or somebody. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to justify the donations. See the L.A. Times article on Paul and Jan Crouch, who need to add millions to their millions so that they can fight the devil (other religions, whatever)(in actuality to pay off people).

Absolutely, we must not deviate from our core values and our commitment to fundamental rights.

Losing, for me, is much better, than giving up on my principles.

 I'd rather 'lose' fighting on the right side than 'win' on the wrong.

17. Did you know that there's a thread in the Ohio forum...
...about a challenge to the Ohio vote? You need 5 people in each county, from what I understand. Check it out.

5. Gays didn't cost us the election
It was Rove's cynical exploitation of the gay marriage issue that was a factor.

6. Not me brother. I stand with you
and with my son and his husband.

Don't underestimate the number of "DLC" types that are always "nudging" any discussion here to the "middle" (as they see it)

We lost the election for the following:
a. bigots came out en masse (I know, I live in a county full of 'em)
b. fraud in the electoral process from fixed machines to intimidation

The day the Democratic party abandons you, I abandon them and we start a new *American* party togehter. I'm not alone in this so neither are you---for what it is worth.

that said, I have started turning this on its head to the so called moral majorities around here, they are not moral or majority

Oh and I will not remain quiet when they come for you, I mean it. I did not when they came for Padilla or Hamdi, you think I will not speak in your name?

9. Why do you say we lost?
I don't understand why you are validating the Republican talking points. I know you don't believe it,still we need to wipe "lost" out of our vocabularly when we discuss this election.

"screwed" yes, "lost" no.

A way to get the story out, or at least build distrust among the dumbasses ... say the machines are gay!

13. NO!
That was the hot button issue used as a smoke screen while the machines gave them the election. It's an awful truth that gays and choice were used for this purpose. But they didn't have the majority. They have more money.

And try to separate the political strategizing talk from actual policy positions. It's like averting your eyes while sausage is being made. It can get brutal.

15. Even IF we lost the election
it wasn't over this issue. It was the fear of the "other". Honey , one of minorities would have been put somewhere on the ballot to bring the fearmongers out. They will cut off their nose to spite their face because of this irrational fear.

16. I, for one don't blame gays or lesbians or transgender
It was the media and its lack of responsibility.

If the media were honest a lot more people would understand that your sexual orientation is your choice as much as their eye color is theirs. What we have instead are media that don't like to talk about reality because it hurts their ratings, which hurts their bottom line and they won't stand for that.

The election was lost for numerous reasons and to pin it on any one group is just looking for scapegoats.

Hey, you're human. That's all I would see if you were in my field of vision.

Hang in there. Hopefully someday the truth behind why this election was lost will told.

19. We lost the election
because of a combination of voter fraud and bigoted, nasty little people are so concerned with 'getting a good, decent Christian' as president.

I'm still reeling from the absolutely appalling results of this election. You guys definitely got screwed badly, but we atheists are gonna be sent to the "re-education" camps right along with you.

You have my sympathy and my support, for what it's worth. It feels terribly inadequate to say that, but you have it anyway.

23. Rove was brilliant...he figured out how to both put fear in...
uneducated dufuses, and to extinguish it. You guys are right, kind of like the Domestic Violence Syndrome. I hurt you, yet I am the only one that can protect you.

I've no doubt that there were voting shennanigans.

But I also know that there were plenty of Fundies that voted for it, because he made them feel powerful in their little lives. I ran into many of them.

When I asked them why they would vote for a treasonous liar, all I got was that those were Democrat-type lies.

We lost because of hatred. And those that want to bow to that hatred and bigotry, and pander to it, in order to "win" aren't on our side. We don't win if we become like them.

21. GAYS AND LESBIANS, YOU ARE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS!
I was infuriated when I heard that 10 (or was it 11?) of those bigoted referenda were approved. It made me feel ashamed to be an American. My sincere hope is that one day the law will let same-sex couples marry.

Gays and lesbians, I've been there for your community in the past, and I will continue to be there. Please try to remember that during what has to be a painful, difficult time for you. :pals:

25. I don't buy it for a minute.
If I were to be convinced of it, then I say "Fuck em, anyway." No way am I going to give in to that kind of bigotry. We'll just have to make those bigots understand that gays are their children, brothers, sisters, cousins and aunts.

No giving on our families, loved ones and fellow Americans.

Never give an inch.

26. We lost because of voter fraud. You and your gay brothers & sisters
are just the cover story. There is no blame on you except by the liars and weaklings too afraid to face the truth that evil men coveting money have led us to this place. We did not lose because of you.

I keep thinking of Germany and the need for scapegoats to divert attention from where evil truly dwells. Keep wondering when the night of breaking crystal will come in America.

I am tired and soon to lay down my burdens, but you, your brothers, and sisters are my children just at the daughter of my body is and it is a mother's duty to protect the progeny. I have enough strength left make a stand before I fall. I will not let them make me afraid enough to abandon you. They cannot have that. We cannot save oursleves if we abandon our brothers, sisters and ALL the children.

Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 10:58 PM by neebob
who will do anything to stay in power. And people who are too ignorant, too lazy, or too naive to question them. Psychopaths, ignorance, laziness, and naivete - that's why we lost. But mostly it was the psychopaths.

28. For democrats to win elections they have to be...
practical. You don't bring up hot button issues, even if we're right, 4 months before a presidential election and think it won't have any effect on the outcome. Fundies that I know, Gay issues are a lightning rod and will bring then out in droves when they're on the ballot. Sad, but thats the truth.
I'm referring to Gavin Newsom. Bad, bad timing.
