Is it wrong to boycott businesses in red states?
Is it wrong to harm the poor working Democrats in red states by not buying products from businesses in those states?

For example, if there was a choice of companies offering internet sales, say one in Utah and one in Washington, would you go out of your way to buy from the blue state?

And how do you DUers in the red states feel about that? Your in-state purchases provide tax revenues to your state; would you rather help your state's needs, or buy from other states online? What do you think about others boycotting businesses in your state?

In possibly harming innocent people in those states today, is there a greater good to be gained in the long run?

Is there unlikely to be any noticeable impact anyway, even if we organized en masse, except to our own consciences?

I'm not being rhetorical in these questions, I'm really asking. Please share your thoughts.

1. It's tempting

but really, its not fair to Dems in red states because there are plenty of red people in blue states. I mean, we won NH by 1 percentage and there are plenty of other examples. It just won't hurt the right people

6. True, but if you had a choice, or if you could find an alternative
company by looking online for a specific product for a few minutes...

15. It's true that we could find alternatives to buying anything........
that originated in one of the red states, but honestly I think it would damn near impossible.

It would be too hard to monitor every purchase to see if you could trace it back from whence it came, and even if one were to only buy things made say, in Oregon, then you'd have to give money to Iowa for the diesel that had to fill the truck that brought it here to New York....etc. etc.

10. HeeHee
correct. Go ahead and boycot anything else though. Seriously, I am sick to death of these people and I hardly know any of them. I just know that they are there. There are hardly any local businesses left here but if you find something by all means bring them to their knees.

12. People call for boycotts against everything and everybody
at some time or other.

Boycotts work in specific and very narrow circumstances. When they are used indiscriminatly they fail.

Boycotting Red states is an understandable yet lame response to the anger and frustration we all feel for being ripped off.

Taking care of the black box voting scam will further our goals quicker and easier than a poorly thought out boycott.

16. More about policies than location
I'd rather support a good union shop in Georgia that treats its workers well and acts with environmental responsibility, than support a sweat shop in Manhattan.

I have a couple clients in red states who are good companies and good people, so why punish them because an additional few percentage of people decided to vote based on fear? Remember, there's 49% of the voters in Iowa who are Democrats.

17. I bought a new phone today and purposely looked at the state
where the companies were located.

The phone I purchased has headquarters in a Blue State.

It cost me more money than the other phone whose headquarters are in Texas, but I wasn't going to support a Red State in even the tiniest way.

19. Did you check to see if the blue state company donates to the GOP?

Imagine the irony if they do and the red state company supports the Dems.

18. Boycotting businesses that donated

heavily to * & the GOP makes the most sense to me.

It's also important to be sure they didn't donate heavily to both parties.

In my view, we need to be paying especially close attention to who the Christian Reconstructionists and Dominionists are and not help them financially. Anyone who doesn't know about them needs to find out and quickly because if they get the power they crave they will make this into an Old Testament theocratic state. Gay marriage and "choice" will be the least of your worries in that event because these people would execute anyone having sex outside marriage (and need I say that will not include gay marriage) and anyone involved in abortion in any way.

20. Is there a way to find out?
I mentioned one that had truly over-the-top "Jesus" phone music on their phone's hold line... And I've heard there's a fast-food chicken chain that's way-out fundy but I forgot what it's called or how that fact is known (I don't eat chicken). Beyond chance, is there a way to know?
