Democratic Leadership Wake Up |
|
This is the first thread that I've ever started. I've about had it. If the roles were reversed, all the Republican Senators and spokespeople would be on message about the questionable vote counts. They would hit us over the head about this election being a fraud. They would give the media no choice but to cover the story. They'd repeat the word fraud over and over until every American was saying the word in their sleep.
Where are our leaders? Where are our talking heads? Where is any Democrat out there calling for the truth? If our Congressman and Senators do not demand answers then we should not support them when it is their turn for re-election. Let's face it. There is a problem with the Democratic party. We saw it in 2000 when not one Senator would stand up for the disenfranchised black voter. We're seeing it again now.
It's time to let our representatives know that if they remain on the sidelines for this, it will cost them. I am calling, e-mailing, and writing my Senator on Monday and I think we should all do the same.

If this election is taken back it will be no thanks to our leaders. It will be thanks to people like Bev Harris and grass roots movements like.... DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND!

It is quite clear that WE are going to have to bootstrap this. If this has merit, merit that must be proven and bottled in bond, then they will attend directly.

I've been giving the Democratic leadership the benefit of the doubt. Kerry & Edwards worked their behinds off in the campaign & they're entitled time to heal their wounds. But WE'RE hurting, too, & we'd like to hear SOMETHING encouraging from our leadership.
I did get a message from Kerry's campaign after the election. But I didn't want to hear about "healing" & that "every vote counts", but we shouldn't contest the election with a "protracted legal process." Oh, yes we do -- if the situation calls for it! Otherwise, we might as well have it declared that our democracy no longer exists.

4. I'm convinced we have been abandoned. |

Maybe they have all decided to become Republicans. I live in a Red State (Missouri) who do I ask for help?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I certainly agree. There is a glaring double standard and prejudice when it comes to accountability and access to the media regarding the Republicans, who receive carte blanche treatment and first class treatment, and Democrats, who are banished to coach seating and receive that small pack of peanuts.
I was actually thinking about this today of the prospect of promoting a nationwide movement of constituents to write en masse to their congressional leaders. I think if DemocracyforAmerica, Moveon and truemajority initiated this, it would have nothing but positive and influential results.
It would certainly impact our leaders to confront the reality that so many of us are experiencing here in the *real* world. I think thats vitally important right now. They have become too insulated from the land of reality, as well as their constituents and as a result have become too influenced by lobbyists and special interests. Its not fully their fault, however, it is now becoming more their problem and ultimately their responsibility.
There are leaders calling for the truth, and those that realize the big picture greatly affects their self-interest as well. In addition its our responsibility to back up their voices, defend them, and not allow them to stand out too much to make them too vulnerable to extremists. We have to protect them and their valuable leadership as well.
We must continue to build and nurture our own voices and nurture new, courageous voices who see our current situation for what it is. The more we promote the truth and quality candidates, the more we will create a positive impact and the more hope we will have for this country. Real card-carrying Dems more than need our help and support. They also need committed and ethical voices of newly elected Congressmen and Congresswomen to join them on the hill that will echo and defend their voices needing support.

6. I'm really bothered by the deafening silence |

... what is going on with our leadership? If we don't strike while the iron is hot, it will just "fade away" over time I'm afraid.

7. I absolutely agree. We deserve a voice. There ARE 56 million of us. |
|
If they lay down under pressure, bend over when they're told to, they have no business representing us. Period.

10. WE are going to have to lead THEM . . . |
|
because they're obviously more interested in not being called "obstructionists" . . . does it ever occur to them that being called names ain't such a big deal if you respond with FACTS? . . . and maybe even propound some well thought out alternative positions? . . . instead of just quivering and taking it? . . . what is wrong with these people? . . .
