Why boycott Walmart....but NOT CANCEL YOUR CABLE TV?
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:48 AM by Proud2BAmurkin
If you're not willing to cancel your cable TV because you can't give up a couple of decent shows, there is no hope for anything but Republican rule for the rest of your lives.

Cable TV news is a malignant force in our culture now and the single biggest reason Bush won a second term much less didn't get IMPEACHED AND REMOVED in his first. It is the idiot's source for news and why people thought Saddam invaded Iraq or that Bush is anything but a lying corrupt reincarnation of Nixon.

Cable news channels gave the swift boat scumbags about a hundred million dollars in free ad time.

So why even bother wasting your time here if you can't bring yourself to take the step of getting rid of CNN and MSNBC and Fox. Just go watch some cable instead.

3. Basic Cable Only
I only subscribe to the most basic cable service. That way, I get the local channels, the 2 C-SPAN channels, and a few "garbage channels", such as shopping networks, etc.

I get plenty of TV news from PBS and C-SPAN, and I don't give a dime to CNN, MSNBC, etc.

I don't have it either. It took awhile to get over it. I now listen to 'Air America' all the time.

5. Agree....
I can survive without it... I have such barebone cable service anyway, that it is basically network plus TVLand......

But, please write both your cable company and GE, Viacom, and Disney to let them know why you no longer wish to pay for any of their propagandistic "so-called news" shows.

8. Absolutely right MAKE SURE you inform the companies why you cancelled
The cable company, it's parent companies, and sponsors of the crap "news" on the cable news channels.

7. Cable "News", CNN, MSNBC, FOX are the greatest threats around.
40% of Americans watch them for their "news". These three MOFO's are the one's that allowed the SBVT's to come to life. They are the one's that allowed every Bush scandal to parish.

Cable "News" is nothing more than Right Wing Propaganda!

10. Why stop with cable?
Why not just avoid all American media?

They truly suck, anyway.

I went into a Walmart once. The smell of all that plastic and polyester and preservatives made me ill, as did the vile old pensioner who tried to supplement his income by touching me without my permission.

Ugly place.

16. Wow
"The smell of all that plastic and polyester and preservatives made me ill, as did the vile old pensioner who tried to supplement his income by touching me without my permission."

Now that's a sad statement. Why was the person "vile" in your eyes? Why are you afraid of human contact when so many crave it? Do you hate old people, as well? I might remind you that you will be old someday too....

12. I haven't watch cable news in about 4 or 5 years...
...I get all my news off the internet, usually through foreign newspapers. I've got cable simply because my computer is online through the cable company. However, I did find a eco/dem internet service provider that has DSL high speed internet, so I'm think about canceling this and going with them. Its time to give money only to those who support us in kind.

You know what? This is how certain fanatical groups end up with huge lists of rules. This is a glimpse into the process right here.

21. word..
what's next? Who built your home? Who provided the materials? How were they delivered? Where did the raw materials used to manufacture your refrigerator come from? What about the machinery that was used to manufacture that refrigerator, and the machinery that was use to manufacture the machinery? You see how deep you can get into this shit?! Just having a TV doesn't mean you are endorsing the cable news channels. They don't even know that your watching them. Y'all think they have a way of monitoring every last person who is viewing their krap?! Your TV's don't have IP addresses. Boycott their advertisers if you wish, because that's where they get their revenue, but how you gonna know who their advertisers are if you don't watch them?

...they should shift their attention to something, such as Air America (go get a satellite radio) or The Nation or something.

satellite and I assume cable carries them too. Why throw out the baby with the bathwater? The stations that carry good stuff, like HBO, Sundance, C-Span, Bravo, etc. are great.
I never watch cable or network news anymore. I get all my news from the internet and progressive magazines. Television news is irrelevent to me now. But I don't see the need to stop watching all television. What about all the actors that are on our side?

25. That's true and I empathize BUT
we HAVE to sacrifice these things. I love Sundance, HBO, C-Span, Bravo, IFC. But we must make Comcast, et al, UNBUNDLE what we want from what we DON'T. Think of it like magazine subscriptions. Tell them we'll turn it ALL off until they UNBUNDLE and let US choose what we pay for!

26. I got Netflix instead. The CEO and execs at Netflix are Dems
and big dem contributors. Just go to the Netflix site and look at their documentary page; Outfoxed, unprecedented, the hunting of the President, Bush family fortunes, F 9/11, the fog of war... tons of liberal titles, and no repug propaganda to be seen!

And I am going to call to disconnect my cable on Monday. I have had Netflix in the past and liked it a lot. I'll like it a whole lot more now that I know they are Dem contributors.
