INAUGURATION DAY PROTEST? |
|
Now that most of us have at least attempted to put away the tissues, we seriously need to get to work. We have two years to take back the Senate and four years until the election. Registering new voters and changing minds begins NOW.
But first things first. IMHO, we need to let the red voters and the world know we do NOT approve of Bush, and that this "mandate" they think they won has merely awoken a sleeping giant in the Democratic Party. They need to know that this is HARDLY the end of the war, and if they thought we would wallow in our sorrow forever, they are sorely mistaken. We will NOT just roll over - they will have to pry this country from our hands if they want it to become a monarchy, and we are NOT - I repeat NOT - going down without a fight. That fight needs to begin now. Wearing our pro-Dem stuff, sticking bumper stickers on our cars, talking to friends and co-workers, writing letters to the paper, donating whatever we can afford to our causes, etc. Everything we have done the last three weeks we need to do every week from now on.
I believe protests are generally pointless, but in this case I think it needs to be done. I know there is an Inaugiration Day protest being talked about. My question is (sorry about the long rant before this) - does anyone have any information on this (who is organizing it, etc)? I think we should all make the effort to go.

1. It's not unreasonable to expect we could organize nationwide protests |
|
Heck, worldwide protests.

2. I have been wondering about this, too. |

I want to go.
Should we at DU just organize on our own?

3. I think it would be appropriate! |

We have to start somewhere. Heck, why couldn't we have worldwide protests to the inauguration? The entire flippin' world hates Bush more than we do.
Umm...how does one organize a worldwide protest?

http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?list=type&type=27 , click on your state and find the group in your area. Many will be protesting (a far from pointless activity, actually), I am sure.

4. ARe you crazy? We need to stop it before then. |

WE need to make sure those electors are never seated. We need a national inquiry. Let's not wait til January. Then it's too late.

12. Plan for the worst, but hope for the best. |

Heck, when our national inquiry succeeds, you can use those plane tickets to DC to attend President Kerry's I-Day.

13. We're planning on tucking a little money away to go to DC in January. |
|
Either way, it should be an historic occasion.

10. Gandhi -- dramatic, peaceful and non-violent |
|
Dress in black -- turn back as bush's limo passes.
Dress in black -- drum muted -- march behind a horse drawing a casket labeled DEMOCRACY -- with the date of the election. March is muted, solemn and somber --
Passive Aggressive.
