Okay, NOW it's time to LEAVE the country! READ THIS OpEd

Heads up DUers-
This was just sent to me in an email.
These people are fucking insane.
We and the UN are now terrorists
according to this crack pot.

CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVES MUST NOT COMPROMISE
By Frank Pastore, Op-Ed LA TIMES Former major league pitcher Frank
Pastore is the afternoon host on the Christian talk-radio station
KKLA, 99.5 FM.

"Christians, in politics as in evangelism, are not against people or
the world. But we are against false ideas that hold good people
captive. On Tuesday, this nation rejected liberalism, primarily
because liberalism has been taken captive by the left. Since
1968, the left has taken millions captive, and we must help those
Democrats who truly want to be free to actually break free of
this evil ideology.

In the weeks and months to come, we will hear the voices of
well-meaning people beseeching the victor to compromise with
the vanquished. This would be a mistake. Conservatives must not
compromise with the left. Good people holding false ideas are
won over only if we defeat what is false with the truth.

The left must be defeated in the realm of ideas, just as it was on
Tuesday at the ballot box. The left hates the ballot box and loves
its courtrooms, which is why it hopes to continue to advance its
agenda through the courts. This must end.

The left bewitches with its potions and elixirs, served daily in its
strongholds of academe, Hollywood and old media. It vomits
upon the morals, values and traditions we hold sacred: God,
family and country. As we learned Tuesday, it is clear the left
holds the majority of Americans, the majority of us, in contempt.

Simply, a majority of Americans have rejected John Kerry and
John Edwards and the left because they are wrong. They are
wrong because there are not two Americas. We are one nation
under a God they reject. We remain indivisible despite their
attempts to divide Americans through their relentless warfare
against class, ethnic and religious unity.

We still believe that liberty and justice is for all. In 1946, there were
those on the left who believed the Germans and the Japanese
were incapable of democracy and liberty. Today, many doubt
democracy can be birthed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Like their
forebears, they too will be proved wrong.

The nation has now resoundingly rejected the left and its
agenda. We do not want to become European. We do not want
to become socialist. We do not want to become secular. We are
exceptional. We are unique. And we are the greatest force for
good in the world, despite what the left, the terrorists or the
United Nations may claim. It is for these reasons that we remain
the last great hope in the world for freedom.

We continue to be that shining city set on a hill. And we fully
accept the responsibility; we are proud to be the envy of the
world."

That's all I need to hear- I want out of this looney bin. bhn

49. Uuummmmmm, this is in the opinion pages of the LATimes?
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 05:19 AM by TaleWgnDg
Repeat, the opinion pages, correct? As in the opinion/editorial pages, correct? Not the journalistic pages. Not the fact pages. But in the o-p-i-n-i-o-n pages where a newspaper tries to demonstrate different views and to educate people on "what's 'out there'," correct?

This article is opinion. It's not news. Just somebody's opinion. It's not fact.

What's the beef? This is one idiot. One idiot that has a local radio program. In other words, a local-yokel who's a "Christian" "shock-jock" that the LATimes allowed print space on its op-ed pages to demonstrate what kooks are "out there," about and around this election of 2004.

Again, what's the beef? The LATimes has done you a favor by exposing this b.s. to people who've never read such crap, never knew about such crap, and now may know who voted for GWBush. Why not send a LTTE complaining or giving em kudos for exposing this idiot?!

Again, this is good. Not bad.

Btw, where's the url hyperlink to this newspaper article? May we at least read this in the newspapers -- ourselves, first-hand?

. . . . . . "I always laugh when people say that George W. Bush is saying this or that to appease the religious right. He is the religious right." - GWBush first cousin John Ellis

82. I read something very similar to this in the Asheville Tribune.
a pastor was writing in calling immigrants to Asheville "invaders" and saying people need to "reject" them.

Asheville has always been liberal, George Vanderbilt (ironically considered the "poor" Vanderbilt) brought his millions to the area and with it came art and culture the likes of which it had never seen, along with the wealthy from Charleston and the surrounding flatlands summering there.

The op-ed I read was one of the most vicious and vile pieces I've read in that area, it seemed to me to be using religious allusions and language to incite (this is just me, but it's what i got from it) violence and hatred againt people without local roots in the area.

The irony is that these folks are no different than muslim fundies, the language they use is so similar because it came out of the same geographical region a few hundred years apart. I'm sick of it, of the hyperbole, the horseman/sword/victory laden metaphors, the depravity that is somehow excused because of a racial annointing from God. I mean i'm sick of ALL of it. This is one freaking region on this planet that has dominated human discourse and daily life for 5000 years or more, and I'm fucking sick of it. Sound the buzzer. Time's up zealous students of middle-eastern fables of every stripe, YOUR WAY DOESN'T WORK.

to the LA Times in the morning. Thanks for the post, I haven't read the paper since Tuesday so I missed it.
I also emailed them just now and gave them a piece of my mind. I can't believe they ran it.
Any one else getting the LA Times, or any other newspaper that ran it, I suggest you cancel your subscription, too.

I'm going to post this thread in the CA forum as well.

43. That's exactly what they want - theocracy
Christian Fundamentalism vs. Islamic Fundamentalism

Both sides think the other is the anti-Christ.

Is that not INSANE.

These people say they are CHRISTIANS and then talk about how only they are right and they must defeat the one's who don't believe as they do.

What happened to the words of Christ to turn the other cheek.

"Forgive me as I FORGIVE THOSE WHO SIN AGAINST ME". Well since the Christian Fundamentalists are not forgiving anyone, they aren't going to be forgiven and according to their own belief structure they are the one's who will end up in "hell". And since our belief structure creates our own reality, even though I don't "believe in hell" (the same way they do) THEY WILL END UP THERE until they get tired of being there and realize they can create something else.

The most hypocritical group of people I've ever seen....... Christians my a$^!!

53. Yep, the Talibornagain...
...really seem to have very little regard for Jesus. I've noted it for decades. It took me years to figure out why, and it was only around the time of the release of The Passion of the Christ that I finally realized what was up.

This brand of fundamentalist really has very little idea of full, "orthodox" Christianity (be it conservative or liberal). Although they claim to love the Bible, they know little of it except "proof-text" passages. (I, on the other hand, have read the whole thing cover-to-cover twice in my life.) Above all, they are so fixated on the notion of "salvation" (i.e. getting a Get Out Of Hell Free card), that the main if not only thing they think about Jesus is that he suffered an agonizing death so that they themselves could get into heaven. It's really all about them, you see, and Jesus is little more than a tool to help them reach eternal happiness. That's why, although they proclaim Jesus as their Personal Lord And Savior, he's really just like a manservant who provided service above and beyond the call of duty to them. While they're grateful, they don't really think about him that much, and concentrate more on the Biblical passages that are about control because, hey, we all love to impose our power on others, and it's a fitting way to spend our time until we die and get to the really good stuff...

Well you know me, no I don't; but I told you so.

It's not guns, gays, abortions, flag burning or anything else. The Republican powers have packaged up everything Democratic and stuck the "liberal label" on it. That's what these people hate and they just keep cranking out new shit for them to hate all the time.

That's not to say that everybody in rural America is like this, they aren't. But when you take this op-ed, mix it in with tree-huggers, PETA, gun grabbers, and the rest; you've got a powerful force to overcome.

All paid for by Corporate America.

But I still maintain that the majority of these people are diaper-filling cowards.

They may talk really big until things get real, and also because of the delusion that the left is mostly pacifist and won't fight back. That we will mostly submit and not resist.

How surprised they will be when they find out differently.

They are not going to know what hit them.

The LAST thing they want to do is come in my direction.

It will be a one way trip I assure you.

i don't see how many of them will feel quite so confident when there isn't enough gas to fill their Suburbans or heat their McMansions, food supplies begin to run out, their cushy office jobs being to go away, and the dollar spirals down the abyss.

i wonder, when it all collapses, will they come to us with hat in hand and ask us to advise them on how to start putting it all back together?

16. This reminds me of McCarthyism without the internal clout.
McCarthyism was an irrational, very popular paranoid-delusional political movement that captivated a large minority of the country. Ir provided a conspiratorial solution for the supposed collapse of our culture. Of course, McCarthy was a drunken liar and his chief henchman Roy Cohn was not exactly a paragon of morality. Eventually the powers that be realized they couldn't control this beast and McCarthy was 'disappeared' from power.

I was struck that the LA Times would run this. LA is a multicultural community. The Latinos, Asians, and blacks on Southern California, the majority, would look at this and either laugh or cringe. I'm glad these ass-clowns are getting a forum to speak. This will scare the shit out of a lot of people, who are in the majority BTW.

We've been through much worse inside this country (although what we're doing to the rest of the world is scary). Why leave when you're just going to end up in a country that we victimize?

I don't even believe in karma but I'm getting close. If I did, I'd say that it's every informed American's karma to stay here and fight until we win in order to save both ourselves and everyone else on the planet.

If you need any further convincing as to the futility of fleeing, see the movie "On the Beach" about an Australian submarine crew that surfaces to find the world poisoned by the residue of a nuclear war.

Stick around, kick some ass, and fulfill yourself through your good work.

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

These people to me represent evil, they always have and I grew up around them. It is the antithesis of the principles of the United States.

A faith based show discussing principles, tolerance, acceptance...
many of the underlying assumptions of what is good that now go unmentioned would be a fantastic edition. I grew up hearing about these
principles and I took them to heart, to mean something.

Now I see aberrations of moral and ethical values in the secular world,
evidenced by the greed and corruption of multinational corporations, the sociopathic philosophy of the ruling elite.

Not only have these people hijacked the United States, they also hijacked Jesus for their own evil ideology.

time to take it back.

27. ? BHN HOW did this hideous article end up in YOUR email?
I KNOW this mindset; I have been talking about it also since I joined DU about this time last year.

Over the course of time here, I stopped harping on it so much because we had such an upbeat mood in thinking we'd get our candidate elected.

Now..........here we sit facing this shit and it IS SERIOUS.

I found a site early on that, while it's members claim to be Christian, their dogma is extremely activist and liberal, predicted this outcome. They seem a bit whacky in some respects, especially if you aren't a Christian at all but their research and predictions were simply un C A N N Y!!!

Matter of fact, this particular group already LEFT THE US and went to Canada. Even when they went, they almost didn't make it. They planned early and carefully and went in groups...virtually snuck in.

These same people are also in touch with others from around the world who are interested in "their message". These people predicted it might come to pass that we could NOT get out of America; they equated the coming fascism as like that of early Germany when people wouldn't go when other's warned them too, stayed too long ... and then they perished. :scared:

I don't want to be an alarmist, but I DO find our situation, as compared to what I've read at the site I speak of, just too close for comfort.

I just read in LBN that the Canadian immigration site was SWAMPED with people inquiring about entering and living in Canada!!!

None of this means that we CAN'T fight back and win, but I think people should understand that THIS IS SERIOUS and it's not going to be a cakewalk to take back our country.
:scared: :scared:

Welcome to the New American Fascism...we were warned.

Abortion Remark by G.O.P. Senator Puts Heat on Peers
By CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 - Angry conservatives flooded Senate phone and fax lines on Friday demanding that Republicans prevent Senator Arlen Specter from presiding over the Judiciary Committee after he remarked that strongly anti-abortion judicial nominees might be rejected in the Senate.

........But the Republican officials said that continuing resistance to his taking the chairmanship of the committee that examines judicial nominees was being fanned by conservative talk radio hosts and groups outraged over his comments. ......

The outpouring illustrated how the party's conservative wing has been emboldened by the White House victory and the strengthening of Republican majorities in Congress, potentially raising new hazards for moderate Republicans who might want to break from the president or House and Senate leadership on major issues........

"In 1946, there were those on the left who believed the Germans and the Japanese were incapable of democracy and liberty. Today, many doubt democracy can be birthed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Like their forebears, they too will be proved wrong."

Who on earth does he think helped restore democracy and rebuild Germany and Japan immediately after World War 2? It certainly wasn't Tail Gunner Joe.

And I certainly hope Frankie has a plan on shoving Western Democracy and Christian Values down these peoples throat. Muslams have been down this road before and they have long memories. Methinks they will ultimately look upon this as a load of crap.

...who go into politics wind up as raving lunatics?

At least Jim "Teleprompter" Bunning could actually pitch. (Although some of us suspect his current dementia to be a effect of having gone down in baseball lore as the #1 starter on the team -- the '64 Phillies -- that suffered the greatest end-of-season collapse in the sport's history.) Pastore, on the other hand, had one, count'em, one halfway-good season (13-7 with the 1980 Reds) as the sole highlight of a career otherwise marked by sheer mediocrity.

Of course, sports (of whichever kind), religion, and politics rarely go together well. I remember Rob Scribner, former UCLA football star and later head of the California branch of the Moral Majority, once explaining why the MM supported the death penalty. "It's a biblical principle," Scribner said, "after all, Jesus dying on the cross was an example of capital punishment." Brilliant thinking there, Scribner! In other words, the Moral Majority wants the death penalty because they approve of killing Jesus.

It wasn't John Kerry's.

Who played on the fears and bigotries of HALF of the people in this nation?

This is what I have to say to the media, the pundits and OUR representatives in this country - berate us, ignore us, patronize us, lie about us, hate us, and deny us at your own peril. We are not a small group of people and we are not powerless. We have minds, values, votes and money. George Bush and his lying cabal are a blip in history. There are many other conservative "Christians" out there who intend to make Bush spend his "political capital" -- they feel that they helped Bush earn this capital, it is just as much theirs as it is his, and he damn well better not even think of moderating any of his views.

Not that he had any intentions of searching for a middle ground anyway -- but these people will not let him do it.

Let's not be too melodramatic here. Even if they're living in a very red portion of the country with lotsa intollerance, there are better places within America to live. Places that are more tollerant AND strategic for democrats.

If you're a dem in Texas or Georgia, for example....get out. Leave those states to them...let them get 100% of the vote there. Go live in a battleground state that is more tollerant and intelligent.

but fail to understand that their brand of government is fascism. I've started referring to them only as fascists. Fascism is a far right-wing form of government, and that's what we have here now.

This country was founded on the rule of law, and yet these people are now condeming the left because we "love the courtroom". Does that mean they disagree with the rule of law?

We need to start exposing this fascist cabal for what it is. We need to start demonizing them just as they try to demonize us by calling us communists. They are extremists, they are fascists, they want to divide and conquer rather than work together for a better country.

I want my Jesus back. These hateful intollerant bastards have stolen Jesus good name and tried to make him an intollerant jerk by combining him into a book filled with hatred and intollerance. It is blaphemy and we need to take bak the real Jesus from the intollerant lying pigs.

91. It's a new day and I am PISSED OFF!
Okay, I am really PISSED off thinking this through.
Who in the HELL do these people think they are
and how dare they assume they speak for all Americans?
I just read on the thread that EstimatedProphet shared the link
to on this thread and someone posted that these
people are only 20% of the population- Scary thought,
but certainly NOT the majority.
Of course the fascists in the WH and the Whore Media
have understood all too well that the ideology of
these cretins serves their agenda to destory this
country and are now assaulting us with stories
that imply that they represent the majority.
They do NOT.
When I think that our lives have been hijacked
by a FEW fundamentalists given media time,
I am so outraged that I want to fight back, and as you all
know, that is a FIRST for me.
I thouhgt about Selwynns' post yesterday,
asking for protection from these people, because
she IS a Christian, and it makes me FURIOUS that anyone
would feel that way in America. A country FOUNDED
on tolerance, not persecution of a people.
Fact is, these people should ask for protection
from US! They are traitors and blashphemous wolves
sowing the spirit of the AC among us.
They must be confronted and revealed for
what they really are.
My heart is changing on this...and I am beginning
to think it will be a cold day in hell before I
let 20% of our citizens who are clearly EVIL beyond
comprehension take this country over through fear
and intimidation.
Frank Pastore, you are a wolf among the sheep and
you might want to check what the bible says about you.

bhn

120. It's really mind-boggling to consider..
that "only" 20% of Americans think like Frank. HEY KIDS: That's one out of five! I don't think 20 or 30 years ago, the number would have been 20%.

If it's true that one out of five Americans believe this hateful, facist, view of christianity....then our country is in serious trouble!

Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 04:20 PM by burythehatchet
I plan to stay here, take these fuckers head on, use my intellect, my strength, and my spiritual center to annhilate their twisted and idiotic theology. I will discredit their ideas and unyolk them from our march into the future. They may remain behind in their enclaves and dark caves. I will march with you into the realm of lightness and being. I will do it as an American, one who chose to belong here, like everyone else who crossed the ocean at various points in history. Its my damn country as much as theirs. They will not dictate my life and future.

126. uh... wasn't it George Bush who won the Presidency in the Court?
He was the first one to start up a court case also. He sued to stop the recount from happening and that started the whole ball rolling.

107. the truth is
He spelled "forebears" wrong.

So, our "forbears", who were mostly Unitarians, disagree wholeheartedly with this idiot's rants.

I wonder if this person really lived in LA? If so, he is making a big stretch on what he thinks the "majority" of people believe.

111. You Know It Still Amazes Me
that the people who consider themselves the Most Righteous Christians are the ones who are the most Un-Christian in their acts, behavior and words.

They don't "love thy neighbor" - and in this world that could be someone right next door or on the other side of the world.

They don't "do good unto others" - because killing and hating people from a different country who never hurt us isn't good or right or CHRISTIAN.

The words "Thou shalt not kill" obviously should only be applied to those of a like mind. So that doesn't go for anyone in Iraq and as for everyone else we should all probably run for the hills.

They don't really care for the least among us, the sick, the poor, the needy or anyone outside their narrow view of the world. They don't even want to try to understand.

And to talk about "Not becoming European" MY GOD MAN...WHERE THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUR FAMILY CAME FROM ORIGINALLY!!! They didn't just magically pop into existence in the good ole USA. They came from another country either this year, last year or many years ago YOU JACKASS!!

Sorry if this overly long, but I'm tired and I'm still hurting from the loss of this election. But I gotta tell you...people like Frank Pastore give TRUE Christians a bad name.

I think one day he and all the others like him will find the gates of Heaven are gonna be just a little beyond their reach.

:grr:

112. Stuff like this BS is to be expected.
However, if Bush has any brain at all, he'll realize that it wasn't just people wanting a theocracy that voted for him. He'll have to make some comprimises somewhere. If nothing else, the Republicans and Democrats voted for by the others more reasonable than Bush will tell him no on some things (unless they want to be voted out later).

125. Good point, but
don't expect it from the Senator from SC who thinks all gay teachers should be fired.

And don't expect it from one of the 2 from SD who thinks doctors who perform abortions should get the death penalty.

But, maybe, some folks in other states will wake the FUCK up.

116. Think of the Freepers
I was surprised that so many of them are fucking rapture nuts. A lot of them are -- but there are many republicans that are not. I feel equally strong that while the corpo-fascists were whipping up god in the loony bin, they were also tricking a lot libertarians that they're for "smaller government," "fiscal responsibility," and "individual liberty."

Their use of this in their convention speeches was the EXACT opposite of the classical liberal concept of "liberty," and "limited government."

We already know that fiscal conservatives have been bewildered as to why Bush has raided the treasury, expanded the welfare state, and has promised to launch a NUMBER of federal programs. Look for everything to go federal now. There will be no more talk of federalism, or local control -- and the true free market that they've campaigned on, will move increasingly toward corpo-fascism (though, it's just about already there, now), the welfare state to be turned over to the church and the corporations on a federal level.

We know who these people are -- they've always been with the world -- they're part of the "pre-Englightenment" mindset, and anyone who thinks that "it can't happen here" is a bigger nutjob than the rapture freaks.

They've practically shut down the discourse with anti-intellectualism, language manipulation -- they will not stop, until there's no outlet left to call them what they really are. And they won't stop until they have the 2/3, 3/4 gov super majorities that will let them amend and subtract from the Constitution, at will.

They've said they want to cooperate -- but they're already back to ridiculing us, marginalizing us and threatening us -- and the ballots haven't even been shredded, yet.

They stole this election. They stole the last one. Oddly, the lines are drawn similar to the civil war map. And this letter is a VERY good indication of the way the hard-core ideologues think, and this election was a good indication of how large a grip they have upon the masses. The Nazis had enablers, people -- people that resembled your Aunt Tainy -- who voted for Bush because "he's a moral man."

I thought to myself the other day -- why would they outlaw abortion? It keeps the minority population down.

Answer that question for yourself. And no matter what happens -- believe your lying eyes.
