Any word on the New Hampshire recount?

Things look very suspicious to me despite Kerry winning the state.

1. OMG
That's so bad it's ridiculous

Almost even? Jesus. Can't they even fake it believably?

I hope they get caught.

4. NH was so slow getting it's count out - a recount might really be tedious
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 03:13 AM by jean
but well worth the struggle and the wait!

All that I've read, here on DU, is Nader got his request in to NH on time. But I don't know what happens next, if anything. I wonder if they can just blow him off.

5. Mmm, don't know if they can blow him off being a candidate challenging
the vote count. Might not be able to.

13. Nader's request for a recount was ruled invalid "at this time"

6. The ludicrous chart is the one on the left
Kerry 57-41 in New Hampshire? Nice exit poll. There was never a pre-election poll within 8 points of that. That would make the state almost 20 points more Democratic leaning than the nation as a whole. Historically it's very close to even with the nation. We won New Hampshire because Kerry is from the region and Bush was not especially popular there. A one point win was plenty.

9. Then what's the harm in
recounting it?

10. Purely biased; I don't want recounts in states we're winning
Not only did Kerry win New Hampshire, but we upset the GOP incumbent governor by something like 13,000 measly votes. The Republican was a very rich and very smug jerk. I would like the vote to stand and keep him out of there.

11. Agreed -- given who we are dealing with, and the absolute power they have
I am for leaving in place any victories and office holders we have in place.

12. NH repukes are not really fundie types.
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 11:37 AM by Cobalt Violet
Same with Maine. I think they wouldn't buy into that crap as readily as the south.

Also there has be a huge influx of Massachusetts residents into NH over the past 4 yrs. as rents have skyrocketed and the housing market is out of reach of most lower, and middle class families from MA.

15. Agreed. I did a visibility in Hookset on Monday and the response
was mixed, the campaign told us that if we didn't GOTV in Manchester, Kerry would lose. I do not believe this was just scare tactics.

8. Anyone know where the exit polling was done?
I'm guessing the urban (or what passes for urban in NH) centers which are generally more Democratic than the rural areas. I'm seriously doubting those exit poll numbers.

14. One good thing is that NH has a verifiable paper trail
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:04 PM by andym
NH should have one of the most accurate vote counts in the nation. Low tech electronic voting with a defined paper trail

"Computer miscounts? Not likely in New Hampshire"

This article explains that NH law requires a paper trail.

So determining if there were irregularities should be easy.
