Re-Populate the Blue States Initiative
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 03:22 AM by VivaKerry
***this is the first thread I have started. I say let's make some waves.. some BLUE waves!

Yes, I think ALL liberals (aka conscious people) should move to blue states, in droves. Make the blue states more an indigo, a glowing indigo.

I am indignant. Screw them. They are not pushing me from this country. For one, whatever the hell their morals are, they are founded on very, very thin ice which is due to melt. We know the foundation of the radical right of the republican party is founded on insanity, fear, intolerance, hate.. which is NOTHING in the great universe. It's all perceived. It isn't real.

And something that isn't even real is going to push me OUT of my country. I don't think so.

All libs should move to blue states. Let's make some paradises right here. And added benefit is that we remove the camoflouge of mainstream legitimacy that the fundies and radical rights and bigots use to LOOK mainstream. That's right, by mixing with them and putting our kids in schools with their kids and eating in the same restaurants and playing in the same parks, WE make THEM look normal, and they are enabled to continue to deny, deny, deny that they are backward thinking, closed minded rat bastards.

I say, stop providing camoflouge for THEM. Come on out to the coastal states and help us push them OUT of these coastal states. These fundies who are just so hellbent in moralizing to everyone can just go to Mall of America for their fucked up family vacations! Cause San Fran and Seattle and NYC and Portland and Santa Barbara won't be welcoming them!

I hate the fact that I am talking about 'us' and 'them' and have refrained from thinking like our georgie bush, but you know, I am sickened by this nation. They have colored me as amoral because I think there should not be a need for food banks, because I think people should be free to love who they want and how they want, because I think bombing children is wrong. I am amoral? Well, fine. Then it's an Us vs. Them thing. But it gets played out on the soils of MY country!

Hence, the blue state relocation initiative!

Thank you, I feel a lot better after that rant.

Peace to all of US.

8. That could be part of the solution:
thinking texans branching out across the nation.

I Love Texans. Warm, real and lots of good horse sense. Sorry that bush comes from there!

But I called for the same the last 2 days. Swell our electoral numbers. Surround yourself with like-minded people. New England welcomes you, and the seafood's cheap.

Malls. I picture people eating really BAD food (candy corn, hot dogs, diet pepsi), and buying stuff that they don't need. Seems like a red state thing. LOL

Hence the reason I have chosen to NOT sign up for DU. I have been watching in-fighting for a year now and have chosen to not sign up to get into the fray. Alas, I didn't want to get locked out of the forum on election night were that measure have needed to be implemented. Now that I can post, I am posting. But perhaps not for much longer now.

If you haven't noticed many, many good dems talking about leaving this country, then you won't understand my post. I say, STAY. But I refuse to enable the 'moral' 'majority'. Hell, I want to leave... I really, really do. but that is not the answer.

You don't have to agree with me. You obviously don't. There are two main themes I see going on:

1. People thinking we need to change our image (a la Pres Clinton's advice today). I REFUSE.

2. People wanting to leave the country. That's an option. I am not partial to cattle cars on the way to gas chambers. But this is my country too, and I am indignantly going to stay.

Oh, and thank you so much for your elaboration and discussion on WHY you think my advocation is 'exactly the wrong thing.' A drive by post?

Move all the blue people to the blue states. Red states get redder. Country gets redder. Citizens die. Civilization dies.

Get a pet or something.

14. Okay, I take your point.
It's a bad strategy to 'take my marbles and go home.' but this is the BEST I can do right now, today, given the conservative assault I feel has been committed on this country. I DO want to go to Canada. Or an island somewheres.

I guess I feel like this country IS going to perish. But if we group together, perhaps WE can survive in the aftermath.

Do you really think the world community is going to 'go along' with the pnac'ers? I don't think so. We will be showed the door in the world community. I would kind of like to get a pass when they 'reorganize' that former 1st world power.

17. Red states get redder?
Look at the population graphs of blue states and electoral clout. An exodus of progressives from Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota...well, I don't know that people would flock there to take their places.

5. Wrong, we need to colonize small Red states, bigger prizes.
You create a lib oasis in Alaska or Montana with 50 70K dems, you get new dem senators, Govs, and their EV's. A state like Montana with 10 people living in it gets 3 EV's. Thats what is beating us minus the fraud. We need to colonize.

11. I tend to agree.
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 03:34 AM by tedoll78
Taking-over Montana and other two other small red states would give us:

- as many as 6 new Democratic Senators
- at the very least least 9 new electoral votes
- a handful of new Democratic House Reps

My theory is that John Kerry won the bare minimum of electoral votes that a Democrat will win from now on. No matter whom we put on the ballot, we will have those states. So if we were to add 9 guaranteed electoral votes, we'd be in the 260s, and we'd only need to bring back Iowa and New Mexico. Not too shabby.

12. I like that!! Colonize.
Excellent take on the situation. And the primo part of your idea is that we won't have to wait for the census in 2010 to make a difference (all would be lost by then). We would get state and congress people pretty much this decade with the colonization idea.

And Montana has great fishing!!!

16. The beauty of colonizing small red states is that census won't matter.
These states are gaurenteed 3 EV's no matter how small.

I still think there is strength in numbers. Why not come to Massachusetts, which is being villified by the Republican party anyhow. Build the electoral count and meanwhile live where people have your back.

29. Boston is the place where our revolutionaries said..
"no taxation without representation." Apropos, if you ask me,

I think what needs to happen is the blue states need to push toward federalism, for now. Become very proactive with state laws, do your best to insulate yourselves from the damage being wrought on the red states. Just being surrounded by liberal-minded people isn't necessarily enough to convince me to pack up and leave my family and friends behind and head for a blue state that may still be as negatively impacted by Bush's policies as my red state.

If any state is willing to start pursuing real progressive change, and take the necessary steps to protect its citizens from the erosion of freedoms and security, then I'll be the first to pack my bags, move my business in and come join the fight.

20. Here's what I propose.
Dems from the hopelessly red states move not to the solidly blue states but to the swing states. You'd need huge migrations to increase the number of electoral votes in any one state, but perhaps with a few thousand you could turn some swing states blue.

26. Nice.. maybe make a two-pronged approach
colonize some red states.

colonize some swing states.

Of course, the electoral college should be abolished. That IS the problem. There should be no swing state.

22. Move here to Colorado....
We have been shifting blue for a decade now. We have 9 EV's...give us 500k more...gain a couple more EV's at the next census (2010).

We have one brand new Dem Senator (Salazar...his brother went to the House).

Great weather...mild...but still have the change of seasons. Lots of sun and blue sky (makes you happy, happy, happy).

Denver has a relatively new Dem Mayor...with an outrageously high approval rating. He is a BIG believer in the arts and sciences. Just past fast tracks...lots of new light rail going in over the coming years.

As this is one of the faster growing states (lots of liberals moving here) with a little purposeful Dem push...we will go blue in 2008.

Come to Denver/Boulder.

Move fertile liberals in states like CO, WY, MT, ND, SD etc. for them to have more babies. If we all move into the same state, like someone said, red states gets redder.

24. This does make sense
In-migration is favoring the red states. The red states had a net gain of 8 e.v.'s. The blue states had a net loss of 8 e.v.'s. That's a spread of 16, almost as big as Ohio, that we lost strictly on the basis of population since 2000.

27. I think people from Washington, D.C.
should start moving to Northern Virginia in droves. Forget Maryland! They are already pretty safe but come here. We already have a good number of northern precincts that turned blue this time. Living in Washington, D.C. virtually guarantees that you have inadequate representation in Congress. Living in Virginia you can help us with the fight to defeat at least one of our Republican Senators.

Sure the traffic sucks but just think of all the political conversations you can have while picking up riders in the slug line. Let's take back our country a precinct at a time. Run for state delegate, dog catcher, school board. Infiltrate from within. That's my strategy.
