This MUST NOT BE ALLOWED, or we get Ashcroft on SCOTUS |

This country is well on the way to fascism, and we must stop it. Karl Rove and the neocons have studied Orwell, and we are a lot closer to it than any of us want to imagine.
The first battle must be won. Frist, the puppet Senate leader, is going to introduce a rules change that changes the Cloture rule, which is the one that allows filibuster unless there are 60 votes in favor of legislation and appointments. Guess the number they want? That's right, it is 55. This is an incredibly dangerous situation, which will essentially make the government a wing of the Neocons.
This cannot be allowed to happen. The news media will not talk about this at all. The Neocons will not talk about this. We must talk about this.
We are at the same place in history where Martin Luther King began to find his International voice. We are looking for our voice. We need to find our Rosa Parks.
We must sit in the front of the bus. We must march to Montgomery. We must find our Martin Luther King. Now.

2. The problem here is not Ascroft or any other particular individual. |
|
The problem is the proposed change in Cloture rule. Do you have a link for this, ABB?

Wouldn't it be poetic justice if Lincoln Chaffee then switched parties?

5. They've tried it before |

As recently as last year, if I remember right. Since it takes a 2/3 majority to change the rule, it won't happen. However, I've read somewhere that it's possible to have the Senate chair declare filibusters unconstitutional and vote on that ruling, which can pass with a simple majority.
