Let's have a reality show for the next campaign |
|
The cameras follow a Democrat around from the point of announcing his or her intent to run until he or she wins or loses the nomination. If he or she wins, it continues until he or she wins or loses the election. If he or she again wins, there are four or eight more seasons with cameras shining down on decisions made during the presidency. We could go from the most secretive to the most open presidency in history. What better way to get our choice known by the public and to control the perception?

FOX had big plans for a reality show called "The American Candidate" or something where average people off the street could compete to be a presidential candidate. From what I understood, once the winner was declared he was on his own as far as getting financing to run an actual campaign, but I thought it would have been a wonderful way to educate the public. Apparently FOX realized it would be a way to educate the public as well, because they suddenly and with no comment that I could ever find, nixed the show. I can see a lot of potential for huge problems, because it's not beyond the scope of possibility that the shows winner could have actually been elected. I'm not certain that would have been a bad thing though.
