Who owns Dish?
I'm thinking about switching from DirecTV over to Dish. Want to make sure the company isn't worse than the Murdoch empire.

1. I have dish
It should be a little cheaper, and they definitely have some good deals for new people coming aboard

Keep in mind they all have issues, but I am quite happy with my service. Sure beats cable.

There on screen guide is definitely simpler than DTV

4. charlie ergen
self made billionaire. Viewed by many as a bit sleazy (lots of litigation by and against). Close to McCain, but has given money to dems as well as repubs. I've never gotten the sense that he has a political agenda other than making money.

5. I have DISH
and have been happy with it. The cable co I was on before was forever reducing channels and increasing price. In the several years I have had DISH there have been very few price increases.

Also - DISH offers a lower cost option for fewer channels. Also - they have LINK and Free Speech TV.

16. LINK TV and FSTV need our support
They offer the only true leftist TV network programming on the air anywhere in the United States. They offer news and documentaries not seen anywhere in this country. Their voices need to be heard and they need to grow and gain viewership and exposure as an alternative to corporate-controlled media.

6. I switched from DTV to Dish a couple of years ago
I like it better. They have Link which I did not get on DTV then. I use the PVR box and enjoy it.

17. Actually, DirecTV has Link TV now
I'm looking to switch mainly to get away from supporting Murdoch.

Also, the BBC channel will be a nice bonus.

7. We like it. Switched because of Murdoch.
I read that Direct TV was having financial problems. Can't verify.

I will say this...we lost cable early on during one of the 3 hurricanes that hit us.

Amazingly our satellite worked even during the hurricanes as long as the power went on.

If it rained really hard, it downloaded again and started right back up.

13. I thought that Dish bought Direct or vice-versa
In any case, they pay cable news to run their garbage. I have reduced my cable to the $15 basic service, or I would have no reception at all. Dish or cable doesn't matter, if your package contains cable news, they pay cable news. Cable news should be the target, not which cable or dish company gives you the best service.

18. My question wasn't about which one has better service
it was about making sure Dish isn't as bad politically as Murdoch

14. I switched to Dish from cable
because I wanted to get C-Span2 -- the Senate coverage. I have had no problems with Dish.

15. I get c-span on Sirius Satellite Radio
located in a blue state, New York. I also get AAR and Sirius left. I can live without watching the Senate. But I think there is a way to get C-Span without buying the whole package.
