My apology to the youth vote... |
|
When I heard they didn't show up to vote, I said I was now for a draft. Well, looks like the youth showed up in record numbers after all. So I guess I'll continue fighting to keep you from getting forced to go over there.

4. But will they ever show up again? |
|

I say this as one of them. I will be back, but what about the rest of them? Will they ever believe that they matter again? I have to say that the initial reports in the media were devastating. Kerry lost because the youth didn't show up? WTF? We DID show up and we DID bring our friends. Every person I know under the age of 25 voted and voted for Kerry, and the media slapped us in the face. I'm more determined than ever to slap them back now. I just hope that my peers will be there with me.

On the bright side, though, the best indication of whether someone votes is if they vote when they're 19. So if history is any guide, we have built a base of lifelong support. Time's on our side.

Both pundits and regular Democrats remarked that the Democratic base and youth vote was more energized than it has been in years. 2006 Is a mid-term election. I guarantee Democratic turnout will be lower. Fundy turnout will be its' normal high level.

we need to get Hispanic support to the 60s again, get African American support back in the 90s, and get women and ages 60+ back.

I am pratically one of them, I am eligible to vote next year. I believe I managed to get some of them to vote because I was such a Kerry advocate and there was no one like that for Bush.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=548&u=/ap/20041105/ap_on_el_ge/young_voters&printer=1Under-30 voters came through in big numbers this year, with more than 20 million casting a ballot for president, researchers found. The turnout bested their 2000 showing by more than nine percentage points and heartened activists who worked to get young voters to the polls.
