I',m sorry, but your religion is not a "get out of jail free card" |
|
If you subscribe to certain religious beliefs I have a right NOT to respect them. I have every right to try to convince your children other wise. Certainly I cannot prevent you from self-castration and dressing like a stick of roll on deoderant, but I can affirm to you that I think you're a dipstick.
If your religion bans dancing and rewrites textbooks to give scientific and factual weight to the unscientific and non-factual I have a problem with that.
If your christian belief directs you that gay marraige is wrong - don't marry a gay person. Your "tradition" is not the same as everybody elses. Even if I were to consider it "my" tradition by virtue of the fact that I am a W.A.S.P I'm sure that there are at least a few historical traditions (particularly among Native Americans) do not agree with yours. In a pluralistic society you have to deal with that.
Speaking of which - you have to at least be internally consistent. Don't tell me one minute of your love of Jesus and then praise Bush's decision to go to war. I'm sorry but "render unto ceaser" is not as important as "loving thy neighbor."
Frankly I'm tired of "freedom of religion" being interpreted as "No matter what your religious views are they will be considered by default to be harmless and virtuous"

We need to wake u[p to the fact that some of these sects may call themselves religion, but what they really are is a cover for schizophrenia and psychoses. We shouldn't treat a dangerous religious lunatic any differently than a dangerous secular lunatic.

I especially like your point about religious views being "considered by default to be harmless and virtuous."

4. Well said! I could not agree more |

I am sick of people starting an argument or a statement with "I'm a christian..." like that makes their position undeniable and superseding anything anyone else is going to say.
Religion is a private thing, those that wear it on their sleeve for all to see and defer to is disgusting.

Real Christians keep it to themselves, they live their lives and don't look down their nose at or try to convert me. Actually the fake Christians don't try to convert me either, they prefer to feel superior to me - which they aren't.
