WA Post: Anti-Bush Democrats: "obstructionists" on a "perilous course?"
Democrats Skeptical of Bush Offer
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1802&e=2&u=/washpost/20041106/ts_washpost/a29205_2004nov5

Democrats reacted with overwhelming skepticism yesterday to President Bush's pledge this week to work constructively with them on a second-term agenda, as the party begins an intense debate about whether to seek any common ground with Bush or to be implacable in opposition.

Many Democrats said the experience of the first term -- in which they perceive that Bush promised cooperation but governed in a highly partisan fashion -- has left them reluctant to cooperate with Bush unless he takes the first step by moderating his course on such issues as Social Security (news - web sites), judicial appointments and limiting lawsuits.

Other legislators and strategists, however, cautioned that being perceived as obstructionists is a perilous course. They pointed to Tuesday's defeat of Senate Minority Leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.) as an example of the cost to be paid in more conservative regions if Democrats become defined largely as anti-Bush in the president's second term.

"They make a profound mistake if they think we're demoralized," said Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (news, bio, voting record) (N.D.), a moderate Democrat whose reaction echoed the unyielding tone that generally prevailed among Democrats of all ideological stripes yesterday. "We're not going to roll over and play dead. . . . We had a setback, but we're as determined as ever to push our own agenda."

8. Bush cannot gain the reputation as "peacemaker"...
That was the intent behind Scott McClellan saying earlier in the week "The president wants to reach out, but his arms are only so long."

This is a SET-UP. Here's the way this "con game" works:

Bush makes a "gesture" to the Democrats, which is nothing but an offer to them to participate in reaching HIS unyielding goals...and when the gesture is shunned, Bush can say "I tried to reach out but the Democrats aren't interested in working to build a better America."

Bush is INCREDIBLY transparent. We're not supposed to see this?

10. "Sharing" will become the new "S" word...
Psychology 101: A man who is unable to admit ANY mistakes is not a man who understands the word "share."

5. Here's what they are NOT getting...Daschle was canned for being a pussy!
Pussy Democrats will always lose to the resolute Repuke Right. The people this past election indicated that they wanted a "STRONG LEADER." This means that Democratic politicians need to GET SOME BALLS and KICK SOME ASS. No more wishy-washy Dems. And, FUCK this "we need to move to the middle bullshit."

Oh sure, and Homer Simpson is an example of the perils of intellectualism.

11. Yes, we are "obstructionists"
If we have to obstruct big corporate special interests from ruining people's lives, then that's a good thing

14. The battle lines are being drawn then.
Our elected, Democratic Officials BETTER OBSTRUCT. They have no choice now but to put some horns on the donkey. It is time to be stubborn, and rush like a bull at the bullshit that's coming at us soon.

Filibuster! Then, filibuster some more. Stand strong! Fight the good fight. This is what I expect from those who represent our Party.
