Regarding the talk of boycotts...
After mulling this over, I really think we need to focus less on the companies and more on the media. If we boycott Microsoft, for example, who is really going to pay? Not Bill Gates! He'll just cut a few jobs and put another 20 rooms in his 48,000 square foot home.

Wouldn't it be better to focus our energies on CNN, fox(duh), MSNBC, etc.? After all, these are the people who are ultimately responsible for continuing this nightmare through their cowardly version of journalism.

A true boycott of cable and network news would serve two purposes; it would wake them up to the fact that half this country wants journalists who find and report the TRUTH, and most importantly it would give a boost to real outlets of journalism, such as C-Span and many great newspapers and online news sources.

Anyone agree?

1. I already recommended a complete boycott of cable TV
If a huge chunk of the 55 million that voted for Kerry were to cancel their cable TV accounts for just one month, can you imagine the impact?

3. Absolutely

Many of us have already stated our intent to boycott TV News.

Especially cable.

It is nothing but GOP spin and lies.

4. No; I Say Do Both
What I have been doing is, I took my last credit card statement and then put every retailer I used into the search at followyourmoney.com.

Everyone has their own standards, these are mine: If a co. has more than 50% of their pol donations to GOP then they lost me. And I'm writing to let them know.

Solid Dem givers like Costco get a letter of support.

Looking on "the internets" for companies that support lib causes. One interesting one is givesomethingback.com Office supplies co. based on Paul Newman model.

I ain't watchin' no fucking cable. My family wants to keep the TV I would be happy with it gone; although we did compromise by switching from Direct (Murdoch-owned)to DISH.

7. Heartbreak: TARGET!
You're welcome! Only heartbreak I had was Target. 60% plus GOP. I will miss Target but whatever. It's really the only sacrifice; I've found lib-friendly alternatives for virtually every dime I spend, it's just a matter of being aware of where your money is going.

8. You can boycott a certain company or store if you like, but the media
idea is great and add to that just trying not to buy much during hte holidays. It won't be that hard since most people aren't going to have a lot to spend!

9. Block out the cable news networks with "parental controls"
How's this: Millions of us in the blue states (the ones with the most buying power) simply block access in our houses (it's easy too do on my system) to all three cable news networks, just exactly the way worried parents can block out porn channels on their control boxes. Then we inform our cable providers AND all the major advertisers on these networks of what we've done and why. And then we assert that we will not tune back in until the news networks start doing their jobs properly.. A nice clear definition of what we demand from the press would be needed,,,,and one helluva lot of organization...but done right, we could have, I think, a lot of clout. Boycotts work because they get big business right where they live, in their greedy little guts. Cutting away at corporate profits just might knock the pins out from under the right wing. And this could be a highly visible start. I like it better than just dropping cable. I have nothing against HBO and I love Jon Stewart, Bravo and C-Span.

12. Every dollar I spend now has political meaning
I plan to inquire about the ownership and politics of every business I might frequent. I plan to make a list of necessities and locate the best brands and/or sellers. I will increase what necessities I can produce myself, and I will forego any unnecessary spending. I will never willingly give another dollar to anyone who supports this regime.

I don't care if I'm the only one doing it.

I will call and write to fascist-supporting businesses and let them know. I may not have a vote, but I still have a conscience.

13. OMFG -- PIER ONE!
Cripes almighty --- while going through my credit card statement & putting everything thru the "follow your money" site I find that Pier One Imports gives 100% to GOP :o( It figures I guess, imports.

It's only $4000 -- but if I still had the stuff I bought there (gifts) I'd return them!
