The "NOT ME!" Campaign website is up. (order your protest bracelet) |
|
I asked Skinner and he said it would be ok for me to post this here. After Tuesday's election I decided there has to be something I could do instead of sitting around and complaining. I decided to organize a protest. I have started a website, www.notmecampaign.com I have ordered 1000 black bracelets with "NOT ME!" debossed in them. I am donating a portion of the proceeds to DU and since 11 states decided I shouldn't have the same rights as heterosexual people I am also donating a portion of the proceeds to the Human Rights Campaign so we can continue to fight. This fight is not over folks! My sorrow and tears have now turned to anger and I intend to let everyone know that even though some people in this country fell for bush's lies and deceit that I didn't. Nope, NOT ME!

It also incorporates anyone who who is not a democrate but did not vote for bush (although I am pissed at some of my relatives for voteing third party in this election). But. while they did not help us, they can help us with exposure.

and wrote the DNC about. I don't have the thread cause I can't search the archives. Unfortunately, I'm only 14 and not exactly in a good financial situation, so I'm glad someone else with the abilities to make them thought it to be a good form of protest.

Badge..one of those conference type, clear plastic pin back thingys. I inserted a temporary card into it with: Welcome to the New American Fascism~ enjoy your stay~
Pinned it to my blouse and went out for the first time in a week. Wow, what a hoot that was.}(
There's still a bit of tension in the air, even here in Calif.

|
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 09:02 PM by cryingshame
regardless of your intent.
In adverstising or social psychology you don't want to use a negative like that in a slogan.
Furthermore, someone else had this concept as a DU project and polled DU'ers about having bracelets done.
AS A GROUP PROJECT.
I wish you luck in selling your bracelets... laud your creativity and activism and commend you on your generosity for donating a portion to DU.
However, I'll wait to find out if the other bracelet many, many DU'ers discussed making end up getting made.

46. What does this accomplish? |
|
We lost by a VERY narrow margin. This means that we still have some more people to convince. It's much too simplistic to yell "NOT ME!!" That will achieve nothing. Come up with a positive message and have the guts to stand by that. We will win over no one by isolating ourselves with this type of pious arrogance.
Those people that voted for Bush have been misinformed. We have failed them almost as much as Bush is about to. We have a lot more work to do and we won't achieve it by simplistic sloganeering.
One of the reason we failed is that so many of us, myself included, were only fighting against something. "Anybody but Bush!" didn't work and "Anybody but 51% of the American population" ain't gonna win any converts either.
Only a small percentage of that 51% think that Osama is not important, that killing innocents is ok, that homophobia should be law etc. Most of them are scared and under-informed and they voted for a whole package. It's our job to build a better package and a better movement. Just standing on the sideline shouting "We're right, so fuck you" isn't going to help.

We did not LOSE. The election was STOLEN again.
We DO outnumber them, but our numbers are not being counted. The more people who show their support, the more we'll be able to see just how our numbers are greater.
Our package and our movement don't make any difference when we have no control over the votes.

Thanks for doing this.
Others can wait for a bracelt or other trinket by committee sometime next year or maybe in 4 years the DU GROUP PROJECT can come up with something that only a flame war will decide....but NOT ME!
I don't give two damn shits about being "positive" or psychology in dealing with repugs. Your message of NOT ME stands loud and clear with just the hint of elitest entitlement I require.
So until the bracelt by committee is decided upon, I'll be wearing NOT ME!
Thanks

I also like the black b/c it doesn't leave out those who have still given up on the democratic party (not me- but MANY friends I have who are against Bush but see a different answer). So, I think the black is more inclusive of the tens of millions of those who reject this admin.

I have been wearing a U.S. flag adorned with black ribbon since the great tragedy of 11/02. The Not Me people should really consider doing armbands as well. Armbands are so much more visible and traditionally have been used as a sign of protest.

73. Kicked Out to a Dozen |
|
I sent the bullet points from the homepage, and a short editorial out to a dozen disappointed, discouraged and depressed Kerry activists like myself.
If we ever needed a chain-mail e-mail, this is the one. Send it to ten friends and get good luck... In 2008 :)
Keep on humping, brothers and sisters. This chapter ain't fully written yet.

81. Too much individualism! |
|
shaking my head over this blatant example of our democratic 'problem'. Too much individualism! The repubs would have hadmillions of bands-one size fits all -loaded onto trucks headed across the country on Nov 3. Hell, they probably did.

My daughter and I will be wearing ours. The Kerry supporters at her junior high put on yarn bracelets after the election - same good idea! Ooh, and I like your hat!

I ordered 3 for the members of my household.
I also posted the link to a variety of political communities on LiveJournal. Most people seem pretty receptive, although on one community I got flamed because, in essence, the members think that showing one's support for a cause by wearing a tag is "lame." *shrug*
Some other people did express concern about the lack of information on the page; they felt uncomfortable sending money without knowing who was on the other side. Is there any plan to add some more info, so these people might feel a little better about buying a bracelet?
A few people expressed concern about the price; I countered on the grounds that these aren't being underwritten by some huge organization like the Lance Armstrong Foundation, nor sold as write-offs by corporations like NIKE, and that one bracelet is about the cost of a movie rental or a latte, and suggested they ask for one for an upcoming holidays if they still can't scrape up 550 pennies.

I don't have Paypal, I applied for it but then when they want to snoop into my bank account I decided NO. I have a couple of other credit cards and checking account I can use but can't order through Paypal.

You shouldn't need an account to order through paypal. If the account is set up right, the seller should be able to accept credit cards. They take a small percentage, but I think they do that either way. Also, advice to the seller:
GET VERIFIED. (not intended to be a shout, just in caps so it's not missed.)
This is a way that buyers can be confident in their purchase. I'm not sure if you're new to paypal, but if you are, check out the site and get verified. It's very easy, and actually deposits two small amounts into your account. (usually just pennies, but hey it helps the cause, right?) This way paypal knows you are legit, and buyers can buy with confidence.
(I swear, I'm not a shill for PayPal)

102. When you're at the Paypal page hit "checkout" |

On the next page there's an option to checkout with your credit card instead of Paypal. :hi:
