A Silver lining: At Least the Constitution Party is not in power |
|
For some things, we really and truly can be thankful. These wackadoodles, if they weren't serious, would really be quite funny. Shrub is a bleeding heart liberal compared to these people. Jessie Helms would be telling them, "You all are nuts." David Dukes would say, "And I thought I was crazy." Fred Phelps would be saying, "Slow Down there chief." They are for a strict interpretation of the constitution...ammended, of course, to repeal the ammendments they do not like, and add some they prefer. Take a look at their site some time, and just feel your blood run cold.

2. I thought we should have Naderized Bush with Peroutka. |
|
I spent a lot of time this past year fighting with Southern Religious Right types about Bush and his moral values. I would discuss the seamless garment pro-life stance and try to explain how Kerry was actually better than Bush in those regards. However, when people would say that abortion and/or gay marriage were their top concerns, I would bring up Peroutka. I convinced quite a few Bush "moral values" voters to vote for Peroutka. It made me sick to my stomach but they were never going to vote for Kerry anyway and it was one less vote for Bush.
I haven't seen the final breakdown for Peroutka votes but he was polling higher than Badnarik last week. On the hard-right message board, "Catholic Answers", he was getting a lot of support from single issue abortion voters. This is the group that put out the voters guide about the 5 non-negotiables and it almost back-fired on them when it ended up that Peroutka fit their voting criteria better than Bush. I think we should have tried to push Peroutka more with the religious right. He was tailor made for the "God, Guns and Gays" crowd but didn't get enough attention to make a dent.

3. They're not totally insane... |

"In order to avoid election fraud, we urge an end to electronic or mechanical voting processes and a return to the manual counting process overseen by, and accountable to, voters resident in each precinct where the votes are cast".
