Are the Repubs you know all being sore winners?
Earlier I was sent some nasty nasty e-mail from my Repub neighbor railing about Democrats and how they're all lazy good-for-nothings. NOW I just got an e-mail about freaking Jane Fonda and how she ought to not be honored as one of the "100 Women of the Century."

Isn't it enough that they "slaughtered" us in the election? What is it? Will they not be happy until all of us are in concentration camps or something?

None of these people seem to be happy about winning -they've still got a stick up their ass....

7. No...
I think reality is dawning after the white heat of victory fades:

1. There could very well be an attack NOT on a big city, but right in the heartland (could be in a big city there, too).

2. The rest is make it or break it for Bush. If he lets them down, they will look even more like eternal assholes for trusting him.

I live in Repuke central and there is a look of grim acceptance on the faces around me. I thought there would be public horn honking and joy over his win.

12. That's my experience too.
Personally, I think that the ones I know really understood how strongly I felt. I think they know that I really believe that our country is screwed. One has even tried to be reassuring and say that *idiot-boy will calm down b/c he will be worried about his "legacy". One hasn't gotten the courage to talk to me at all yet.

Thankfully, none have been "sore winners".

The funniest part - some that I KNOW didn't even vote have been the ones to run their mouths. THOSE got a piece of my mind. They shut up pretty quick too.

26. Oh, I agree. But, the one guy really tried to make me believe he
won't. Said he will govern more from the middle. The very next day, the headline in the state's paper was "Bush Vows to Ramrod Agenda". I thought "Yeah, here it comes. He's gonna ram it down our throats."

My daughter said her sociology professor was on a rampage. Said he was yelling at the kids that now Social Security will be destroyed. I can't remember the other things he was railing about but he was furious. I think some of the Repub kids in the class were gloating and he let them have it. My daughter loved it.

23. I work in a totally red state
and there is no gloating or celebration. None at all. America had a choice between helping the working class or helping the rich, and they are not proud of their choice. Especially since they found out Bush's election is due to the religious fanatics and voter fraud.

I get the feeling they are in a state of shock and denial about just what they've gotten us into. I don't think they were aware that they were members of the KKK.

It will be interesting to see if they go back to being Bush apologists. I don't have a soft place in my heart for these people. Yes, the media betrayed them, but we were able to find the truth. If they were uninformed and hesitant to vote for Bush, they should have just stayed home rather than making a choice based on Rove's latest commercial.

40. II have a friend who depends on me to keep her sane.
I can't count the number of late night phone calls with one panic or the other. When I tried to talk to her about Kerry v. Bush, she asked politely that we just not talk about politics. Now I am not taking her phone calls. I've had enough. I was there to talk with her about every little problem that was important to her, but her answer when * was challenged in our conversation, was that we just shouldn't talk politics. Well, now I simply will not address her problems. I just can't. She is a good person, does work in the local prisons, etc., has worked in a homeless shelter, etc., so I do not understand how she could support this pseudo-president. As has been said, they are one issue people. She is anti-abortion.

How are the rest of you dealing with this. I just can't feel the same way about my friend or my * relatives. I don't want to see them or talk to them, and, believe me, they really should not be wanting to talk to me. I am beyond disgusted.

I'm really shocked at the lack of gloating. It may be because my best friend is in the service and I am twice as worried now as I was. I think that many people actually are stunned that W. won. They were prepared for a loss, I think.

and it is louder and nastier than ever. As for the Jane Fonda/Vietnam outrage. I don't get that. When did the Vietnam war become such an honorable noble war? Did EVERYONE forget what a huge error that war was? Did they all forget that the US did in fact commit horrific acts while there? I mean no disrespect to anyone who fought in Vietnam and I offer great respect for those who did but it is no secret that the US engaged in horrible horrible actions there. And our government has much innocent blood on their hands American and Vietnamese.

some of my friends have really been pushed past the edge and feel this way. i myself find it hard to completely ostracize some of my GOP friends -- i've known them too long and know they aren't really happy about this turn of events. perhaps they are moderates, that might explain why i tolerate them.

but if this relative is that loopy maybe this reply followed by the silent treatment might suit you.

I work in a very conservative area near L.A. and they plastered their cars with W stickers before the election...since the election, I have seen only 3 or 4 that remain on cars. I'd like to think they just don't want to gloat, but it could be that they were alarmed at the negative reaction to the outcome. It was like 9/11 around here on Wednesday...and I'm not exaggerating. People were very somber.

Interesting...

besides a few freeptards most republicans on school campus were quiet. i guess they realized they were now inside the powder keg and dangerously close to starting a spark. in fact i think one had to leave my class and cry a bit, there was some serious fury beneath the surface of the surrounding students and she probably felt it directed to her and her decisions.

39. "Like 9/11"
I hadn't thought of it that way. But, you're right. I felt it too. It was like everyone was walking around dazed. I even went shopping at Wal-Mart that morning (please forgive me). I swear it was kind of surreal. Very quiet. Very somber. Finally, as I was leaving, someone I knew yelled at me from a check-out line. She said "Have you heard? Bush is only ahead by two (electoral votes)". I said "Oh honey, it's over, he won." She said "But they're not done yet". I said "Trust me, it's over." It was truly sad. No one else around said a single word. NOT ONE WORD. After shopping, I went to class. Everyone there was very quiet and subdued as well - except for one little girl who got in an argument with the guy next to her over the abortion issue. (It's CAD drafting class - no lecture - just work - so we can talk, listen to music, etc.)

30. 50-50 so far.
Some gloating in the law school I attend. Some people somber, probably showing buyer's remorse recognizing that Bush is not the kind of "conservative" they want. On a more positive note, however, a libertarian friend called me up and said, in effect, "Oh my, what have I done? I now see the error of my ways, and I'm a die-hard Democrat from here on out. What can I do to help?" I was angry about the poor timing of my friend's conversion, but it's encouraging in retrospect.

I think they know they have lost their favorite entertainment - blaming Clinton, Daschle and all Dems for everything along with sarcastic bashing.

The enormity of what has happened has stunned them - we were always in a position to save them from their worst excesses - so they could rant and know that a Dem power pocket in the Senate or on the Court would keep their party from driving us all off a cliff in everything - not just Iraq.

I think they are scared - not that they will EVER admit it.

for so long, they don't know how to approach it from any other angles. much like an abused person. sometimes we engage in a battle for the sake of obstinent will. and then we get what we ask for....

the first thing i said to my mom was, "well, bush won. kiss your social security and medicare goodbye. then the rest of all your social benefits. it won't happen overnight, but it'll happen in your lifetime". she scoffed at me. but then an hour later, we were out running errands and saw the headline on one of the local rags. it was something to the extent of social security and medicare to be first on the "revamped" list. i didn't say anything. the reality is just too horrific.

50. Accidentally overheard Jay Severin gloating on his show Wednesday
(for those of you unacquainted with this fucker, he's a knee-jerk GOP whackoff broadcasting his shit in the Greater Boston area; amusingly, he pretends to be a "libertarian" which seems to be part of the neocon schtick - claim to be a moderate or a libertarian or whatever, when in reality you're just a mindless cookie-cutter conservative with your lips firmly planted on the ass of the RNC)

Someone had the radio on last Wednesday and I overheard Severin handling the celebration of his beloved idol's alleged re-election with the dignity and maturity we have come to know and expect from the GOP: he played "Hallelujah" and issued a smug long-winded rant to "the losers who voted for John Kerry - guess what? We're going to pack the Supreme Court with right-wing judges and there's nothing you can do about it!" I guess the term "filibuster" is unknown to him, but it will be a harsh lesson that may cause some tears to form in his eyes when he learns how it works against his friends in the GOP.
