This is honestly just much worse...
than I even believed.

From Yahoo News

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041107/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq&cid=540&ncid=716

"U.S. and Iraqi forces hope to use the same techniques if they drive Sunni militants from Fallujah. American commanders have assembled a force of Marines, Army soldiers and U.S.-trained Iraqi fighters around Fallujah, a major insurgent base 40 miles west of Baghdad.

They are awaiting orders from interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi to launch an all-out assault.

Col. Gary Brandl voiced his troops' determination:

"The enemy has got a face. He's called Satan. He's in Fallujah and we're going to destroy him."

Our commanders on the ground are invoking the name of SATAN to justify their actions? When a Christian invokes the name of Satan, and a Muslim invokes the name of Satan, the difference is linguistically minimal but semantically immense.

This war will have no end.................

1. Oh..great.. And I thought we got rid of that fundie general...
Boykin.

Every time they spout this rhetoric, things get worse for use around the world, very dangerous.

But my chance to end this ended with *'s reclamation of the throne.

8. Why are our children so brainless?
Reducing the dynamics of Iraqi Sunnis fighting to defend their only base of power in this world to "the ghost under the ground defying the ghost in the sky" denigrates ALL HUMAN ASPIRATIONS for a better life in this world.

Why must we eternally wait for PIE IN THE SKY while the "religious" leaders who never put their asses on the line for ANYTHING send children in droves to die to protect their empires???

These are NOT "moral values!" This is cynical mutilation of human dignity for base purposes.

9. I found a different version of this story and there is no Satan quote
Last update: November 6, 2004 at 12:11 AM
Assault on Fallujah imminent
Dexter Filkins and James Glanz, New York Times
November 6, 2004 IRAQ1106

NEAR FALLUJAH, IRAQ -- U.S. armored vehicles roared through the villages surrounding Fallujah, the town at the heart of the Sunni insurgency in Iraq, as warplanes pounded rebel positions and ground forces ratcheted up their preparations Friday for what appeared to be an imminent assault on the city.
.....

Marines gathering outside the city practiced house-to-house fighting, while some American crews fitted their armored vehicles with front-loading shovels designed to unearth mines buried in the roads on the way in. Marines fired artillery throughout the day and night from positions around the city.

"We are going to rid the city of insurgents," said Lt. Col. Gary Brandl, a battalion commander in charge of about 800 Marines at a base outside the city. "If they do fight, we will kill them."

....

The Washington Post and Associated Press contributed to this report.

13. Yahoo
attributes their story to the AP.

Further down in the story it also states that US forces believe there are about 1200 insurgent forces in the city. This belies the earlier reports of anywhere from 4000 to 6000 insurgents holed up in Fallujah.

Internet news and news in general today are problematic...

14. Plus
reports this evening give the lie to the notion that Fallujah is "the heart of the Sunni insurgency in Iraq."

I thought we weren't going to allow our troops to take orders from anyone but our military? Is this a change of position?

11. If true, why not invoke the god you actually worship?
Or better yet set up an altar to Ares or Mars the ancient war gods. Apparently they have been around all along, haven't they?
