Fallujah Will Be A Blood Bath
There will likely be many American losses, and devastating Iraqi losses. I supect that this is bush's first major expenditure of the "capital" he thinks he earned. Will Americans stick by bush in the face of such a scenario? And what should we be doing as this debacle continues to deepen?

1. Political capital = Lives of our soldiers and Iraqis.
Bush has no trouble spending them.

2. Fallujah will definitely be a bloodbath...
House-to-house street fighting levels the playing field between a mechanized force and a guerrilla force. US casualties will spike dramatically in the next few days...:(

3. "Americans" don't stick by Bush
Half of us don't recognize him as our President. His fundie followers, the Talibornagains (love this nick, thanks for whoever came up with it) will stick by him. They will murder their children gladly to spread Jeeeeezus to all the little brown people in foreign lands.

4. Ahh...but...
Just ask the ghost of Richard Nixon. Political capital is a finite thing. Once squandered, it is hard to refill.

6. Yes, but Bush has the House, Senate and Supreme Court
under his control, to say nothing of the electoral process, thanks to blackbox voting. If only Joe Stalin had had it so easy.

9. Bush could grab a rifle from Heston's cold dead hands and blow Jesus away
and his supporters would cheer him on.

11. I'm sure he does want to
try out some new toys, but he won't do it in Fallujah. I doubt they'll use MOABs either.

12. Remember the Alamo: Remember Fallujah
This will be the rallying cry through out the Arab world. Hell even now "Remember the Alamo" brings up emotions to us Texans and Mexicans. Mexico has on display the captured Texan flag in their musuem. The Alamo foundation has tried to borrow it for a long time now, but Mexico is afraid they won't return the flag once it leaves their possession.

15. It's All So Darwinian
If all of their crazies and all of our crazies fight each other to the death, we can retake the world, clean up the environment, live in peace and prosperity to the end of our days. Since they are removing evolution from the textbooks, they won't even know what hit them....works for me.

16. The black plague
Back in the dark ages, the Christians killed all the snakes and cats thinking they were the image of the devil. Then the black plague broke out carried by rats and mice. The rat and mice population had exploded because there were no natural predators to control that explosion. Religion at its best.
