Since Nov 2, I haven't watched the so-called "main stream" media |
|
and that in itself is a major healing effect
Boycott CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and other so-called main-stream media outlets
What they have done to CNN is a tradgedy. Tunner started a great station, then AOL/TIME/WARNER screwed him, and he lost control. It would be great if Turner could start another 24 hour news network which had the ideals of CNN when it first came on the horizon. Not only would he exact revenge against the bastards who stole his network, and screwed the stockholders, but it would represent a station that truely presents the news, and does NOT censor it.

I have my DVR (digital video recorder) set up to automatically record Hardball. I just erase it every few days without viewing. I need to take it off my schedule.
No local news. No Cable News. No papers.
I get my news here.

4. My husband and I have also declared a media blackout in our house |
|
I don't think I could bear to listen to them ramble on about the '2nd term' and the 'man-date'. Those of you who are made of stronger stuff, kindly keep Late Breaking News updated, since that is our only source of info these days. It's an attempt at keeping a semblance of sanity around here.

8. I watch BBC World, and I tried Lehrer but... |
|
I still watch BBC World because that's the only place that reads news seriously and shows parts of the world we don't generally see on American news channels.
I watched the Lehrer show a couple of times, but when I saw that Margaret Warner had been infected with SARSII (Smirking American Rahrah Syndrome) when talking about the war in Iraq and Falluja, it made me sick and now I don't even watch that show any more.
The thought of watching cable news or Sunday morning talking head shows nauseates me to the point of complete aversion.
Thank god for places like DU and SC.

24. Hi Ananda! Welcome to DU! I agree with you -- I like BBC World |
|
and get the rest of my news from DU. DU is the only respite for my cable news weary mind.
I used to watch Capital Gang once in a while, but the last time I watched, I just couldn't bear looking at Kate O'Beirne's self-satisfied, smug buck-toothed smile anymore.
We definitely need our own network -- and soon.

10. I started to watch for a little bit this morning and something |
|
unbelievable is happening. Bush claimed his mandate and it seems people were saying, "Hold on. Your christian win doesn't give you a mandate for your reckless foreign policy, tax reform or social security reform." So now the marching orders are to downplay the chrisitan vote as "it is being over played, it isn't that big of a deal."
The media plays us for fools so I turned it off again. C-SPAN and The Daily Show are the only news channels for me.

Wrote a nasty email to the TV station about it. It was futile, but it felt dandy.

No more cable news for me. I have not watched since Nov 2. I feel better and actually have extra time. My news comes from DU, BuzzFlash, etc. The only news on TV I will be watching will come from The Daily Show and Real Time (funny when the truth comes from "not real" news shows).

18. I have stopped watching the main stream media too |
|
Ever since the Iraq war started the main stream media has handled Bush with kid gloves. No hard questions asked and no accountability. They imbedding themselves with our troops and glorified this war. I do hold them greatly responsible for this mess we are in. How they can sleep at night is beyond me. Integrity is missing in the news.

30. Welcome to DU Cherie59!!!!! |

You are in good company. Great first post, too.
I suggest that all of us disengage from the media, from arguing with Repukes.
It's like when you divorce someone. Both of you have already lost every argument you ever had. There is no sense rehashing the same old, same old. Nor is there any sense in us listening to the talking heads rehash the same old, same old.
Time for a new beginning. Get your news from the Internet until things get right in mainstream media. Pay attention to the local stories that impact you. If votes were stolen where you live, there are some local Repukes who helped. FIND THEM!
My prediction? The Big Three will eventually stop pretending to have any news departments at all. Dan, Tom and Peter will be out in the streets and ratings will plummet for all media.
Yeah!!!!!!!

19. The OFF switch has a healing effect. for 9/11 and election. |
|
I starting shunning CNN sometime last summer. Now with the garbage they're serving up on all the channels, the news channels are OFF until further notice. They've all been wiped from my TIVO.
Exceptions include The Newshour, parts of MTP (watched Obama, but not Rove)....and of course, the REAL news from The Daily Show!
The rest are gone.
In addition to the election, I realized that I've been tuned into news since 9/11/04. There was a PTSD effect of always tuning in just so I wouldn't miss anything. It's a relief to get away from that.

after their "Bush can leave a magnificent legacy" editorial. They are all pandering now. I will get my news online. If it's worth it, it's here--in Josh Marshall, and Buzzflash, and all the other wonderful indy media places. And overseas pubs. And DU has been the best clearinghouse--it has pointed me to all the best places. Thanks to all on DU!

I don't plan on turning them back on until they are all held accountable for all their false God worship. Then it will just be to gloat. I will never trust them again.

26. Funny thing this morning |
|
It's just because all 3 shows are on at the same time here in Philly, but it got to me.
On CBS we had Chuck Hagel(voting machines), on ABC we had James Dobson(Christian Reconstructionist), and on NBC we had Karl Rove(puppet master), all at the same time.
It made me laugh, because I didn't want to cry.
