Question about Clark?
Will he ever announce whether he will run for Prez? If he intends to, he'd better hurry up. Time's running short.

1. Time Frame
He said last sunday that it would be within a week or two. That means it could still be to next Sunday. There are reasons to believe that it will be on or after the Bill Mahr show. The official announcement may run into next week.

3. I believe's he's most recently indicated he would announce…
"at a speech in Iowa on Sept. 19" and/or "by the end of September".

2. I was wondering the same thing...
Last time I heard, "he was telling aides to prepare for a Labor day announcement".

Well... time's up!

4. He has said he will announce before his Sept. 19 speech at U. of Iowa
The new CBS poll showing most Dems are not familiar with any of the candidates shows the field is still wide open. He has not given any deadline until now. Any other dates were speculation from insiders, pundits and supporters.

Once he's in the race Clark detractors will have to find another undersized red herring.

5. It will be in about the next 14 days.
He might be delaying his announcement to not conflict with Kerry's announcement, and then whatever the hell Bush has up his sleeve for his 9/11 celebrations. In the meantime, the apparatus of volunteers and pledges/funds continues to grow.

6. Why is time running short?

Did they move the New Hampshire primay from the end of January to this Halloween?

7. As time progresses towards the caucuses and primaries
things tend to "freeze" or maybe "solidify" is a better word.

Influential people begin endorsing, backing, etc.
Voters in general start to divide up and become active.
He has already missed some big public debates.

Most importantly -- He needs to start raising money to have a chance to compete.

Getting on the ballot in time for the election is a mere fragment in the overall consideration of a timely announcement.

8. He has plenty of time, American don't care right now
Most Americans aren't even thinking about 2004 yet.

If he's going to announce, he will do it when he thinks the time is right.

Clark probably has a strategy to get the most out of not announcing early, and then the most out of announcing late.
