44 Senate Democrats represent 50.73% of America in 109th Congress

44 Senate Democrats represent 50.73% of America in 109th Congress
Based on the 2000 Census, the 44 Senate Democrats in the 109th Congress (2005-2007) represent 142,776,618 people in the U.S. This is 50.73% of the population.

The 55 Senate Reichpublicans represent 138,342,615 people in the U.S. This is 49.16% of the population.

In the 2006 General Election, 33 Senate seats (AZ, CA, CT, DE, FL, HI, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, and WY) will be up for election, including 17 Democrats, 15 Republicans, and 1 Independent (Jeffords-VT). The 17 Democratic seats represent 59.65% of the population of those states in which the elections will be held.

They have 498,000 people and get the same 2 Senators that California gets.

it was on during the 94 apex of the "downtrodden white male" movement, and MM had a line in there something like "despite representing almost 40% of the US population, white men make up a mere 86% of the senate"

We need some reform, but it's a very cmplex issue. Way too complex for someone with the brain power of a Tom Delay or a Jom Bunning.
