Gallup says says Bush's support DROPPED among rural voters
...and that his gains were in cities and suburbs. It's just another poll that seems to fly in the face of reality-

November 05, 2004
ABOUT THAT URBAN/RURAL DIVIDE. Gallup's post-election poll seems to do some major damage to the rapidly emerging conventional wisdom about the 2004 election. According to Gallup, George W. Bush improved his share among suburban voters (51 percent in 2000, 54 percent in 2004) and among urban voters (35 percent in 2000, 44 percent in 2004) while doing worse among rural voters (60 percent in 2000, down to 54 percent in 2004). Similarly, while Bush gained among all categories of educational attainment, his biggest improvement was among those holding postgraduate degrees (47 percent, up from 43 percent) while his smallest gain was among those with high school or less (46 percent, up from 45 percent).
Other bits of the polling do tend to support the conventional wisdom that Bush made significant gains among self-identified conservatives or Republicans, and big gains among regular churchgoers, while staying flat among the non-observant. Still, it appears that in a few respects, the cultural divisions in the United States are narrowing, rather than widening.

4. maybe but it looks like Gallup was more on target that Zogby
They consistently had Bush leading among "likely voters" who were more likely to show up.

6. NOT a post-election poll, the same old pre-election poll!
PRINCETON, NJ -- An analysis of Gallup's final pre-election poll shows that George W. Bush's victory over John Kerry was led by strong support among groups that tend to be politically conservative...

These results are based on telephone interviews with a randomly selected national sample of 1.573 likely voters, aged 18 and older, conducted Oct. 29-31, 2004....

The results are adjusted to reflect the overall national popular two-party vote.

7. of course if a weak pres tried to game the system
by stealing and suppressing his opponent's urban votes, what pattern would we see?

10. This crossed my mind
These numbers would have to be reflected somewhere to give any credibility to the FL returns- the ones that showed the virtual "flip" of votes in dem heavy counties.

8. when you only "fix" "suburban/urban" voting machines, the stats are weird
But who talks about wholesale cheating?

Just those trained in math - and the media fears smart folks in math!

sigh....
