REMEMBER ALL states must change to evoting by 2006!
Now is the time to make sure we hammer on a resolution th=o this issue and not be distracted until 2006 when the excuse will be "there's not enough time!"

Watch for some states to again ask for an exemption until 2008 because they don't have the $$!

1. E-voting , meaning the touch screens that
had Bush as default if not pushed hard enough ? Is that what we want ? I'm confused.

2. Well if this is true they will have a big fight on there hands here in
Oregon! We like the way things are "Vote by mail". But lets say this does happen and then Oregon goes Red there will not just be protesters on the streets here, but major riots. We are a Democratic State.

4. What was the voter turnout in OR? This is the best system overall
for turnout, no one has an excuse not to vote...

9. Good ideas out of Oregon
Originally, you know, we put it in so we wouldn't have to stand out in the rain.
Kidding aside, we really have a beautiful system. Turnout in my county was over 89%.
We already have the postal department. Why not?

6. No, they don't.

They need to be handicapped accessible, but there is technology like the
Automark from Vogue Election Systems which allow optical-scan ballots to be marked by the blind.

12. No, I'm a Democrat, and the "Help America Vote Act" doesn't
require black-box voting.

I'm expecting to still vote on an optical-scan ballot in 2006.

And people in Ohio and California who vote by touchscreen will get voter-verified paper ballots printed in 2006.

14. Accusing people of being Republicans is a DDT.
As in "don't do that".

13. Oregon accomodates the blind
Why does it have to be electronic? I like my computer but that does not mean I trust it to run correctly all the time.
Machines make mistakes. 2004, case in point.

15. They have to get rid of punchcards by 2006, but they can buy optical-scan
ballots, supplemented for the blind with Automark from Vogue:

A better idea would be to use plain paper, create smaller precincts, and do a public hand-count of the votes, but I'm not expecting any states to follow this idea.

16. I heard many states who use a lot of punch cards favor t-screen.
I don't mean the people, but the State Depts who actually choose the machines to be purchased. I have heard many of them believe the touch screen machines to be the best solution. I guess the actual act doesn't demand any specific kind of voting, but mandates handicapped access, multi lingual options, and elimination of punch cards.

My whoe point is, we need to concentrate on verification capabilities. Seeing a screen that says this is your vote does not give all the voters confidence in our system! There MUST be an audit trail to all machines!

17. Officials like touchscreens because they're the most expensive,
and the companies can give them high-paying jobs if they buy touchscreens.

It's a kickback scheme.
