Actually I'll buy a few things from local crafters at the Pike Place Market in Seattle (solid blue!) but everything else is gonna be an import.

1. From your screen name, you must be from MN!

Us current DFLers might just have to use that same shopping strategy.

3. I'm giving EVERYONE donations to progressive charities.
ACLU, Amnesty International, Sierra Club, Greenpeace are some of my favorites. Local animal shelters & food banks are great, too.

IMHO toy drives & such just perpetuate the "consumption is good" stereotype & I wouldn't waste my money there.

7. that's what we're going to do too.
Someone posted this morning about a charity called heifer where you can buy an animal or a tree for a poor family so they can make a living off of it and use the milk, eggs, wool or fruit it produces. We donated a goat in our kids names earlier today. We are also going to do this in lieu of giving money to churches. We haven't been able to find a church where we live that isn't pushing the Christian Coalition materials and until we do our offering will be going to do what the churches won't - take care of the poor, the hungry, or the sick. It is better than giving money to a 'building fund'.

9. Do you have a Unitarian Universalist congregation in your area?
You might want to check them out. They tend to support liberal causes.

For the folks who voted for Bush on your gift list: Donate in their names to the ACLU for the holidays. Make another donation on their birthdays too.:9

12. wait -- consider making a stop at the Tom Bihn store near Pioneer Sq.
They've taken a lot of flak for the anti-Bush message on their labels ...
