Say Goodbye
Looking back and reflecting on my life after the defeat the Democrats two days past, I have to wonder what was the point of investing so much of myself in politics. I took a great interest in politics when The Vietnam War was the main subject under discussion. I was forced to register for a draft that could send me to a foreign land to kill for what I did not know, it was not until years later that I truly understand the magnitude of what was going on.

It has been a struggle between two groups in this country since the beginning, now we call them Republicans and Democrats but really it is struggle of ideologies, left and right. Basically the people on the right would like to keep control of the reins of power they hold through religion and wealth, opposing the left standing up for human rights. Through these vehicles they control everything. They now control every phase of a person’s life whether you like it or even realize it. They control work, education, housing, the food that is sold, even the drugs on the street. They control talk on the television, radio and even the street in some places. After the crash of the market in ’29 and two huge wars the other side did make some gains through labor unions but all those are about to be lost. The 40 hour work week, overtime, health care benefits, minimum wage and child labor gains will soon be lost. It now takes two incomes to support a family today and with consumerism instilled deep in our brains they have us in their power. Those on the left will not prevail all guns are turned on them and their every move is squashed or mitigated. Only the right’s arrogance and greed will bring them down, they are pretty much unstoppable with complete control of the media. Only the internet remains as a refuge and soon it will be totally controlled by the corporations and consumerism. Their goal is to spread this capitalism through out the world until everyone is sucked in or dead. They are ruthless and will stop at nothing to succeed.

Even the Civil War was a struggle between two capitalistic machines, the industrial factory north and the agricultural plantation south. They both exploited workers, sweat shops and slaves. Freeing the slaves was really a punishment, they took away the south’s built-in labor system and as an added bonus when the freed slaves came north it meant cheaper labor for the factories. This group of military industrial fascists that now controls our country has now even brought the south really under its wing, through religion and racism. Their control of America is complete.

Thirty some years ago I thought it was hopeless when Bobby was killed, I feel the same way now. Now I know it is hopeless. We fought the good fight, we can be proud of our moral fiber. We stood up for what we believed in but the other side was just too strong and the American people to weak. They are using fear to break us down and divide us and it is working very well. How long can one continue to fight when all you can do is beat your head against a concrete wall. I for one can not take it any more, for my own sanity I must turn my focus to something other than politics. I am turning off.

I've been doing the same since Wednesday - no cable news, only posting in LBN and the lounge. After the wounds heal, I'll be back in fighting form, and you will, too!

14. I totally understand what you're feeling...I am almost there
myself. I think you should do what you need to do. I was talking to a friend and she said we need to put our energy where we want things to be - not where they are. Good luck to you and take care. :-)

8. You've expressed my feelings very well. I'm not ready to turn off yet..
But I'm very close to moving my family out of this country.

The right have been using these same tactics for many years. Divide and conquer. Poor white working class man, you had better fear poor black working class man!!! Poor white working class man, you had better fear poor darkie raghead!!! This is the Bush agenda.

Same bullshit, different day.

You are right, our gains were made through the organization of labor. I really think that this is our only hope for the future. Organize and bring the whole fucking beast down.

10. The market will crash again. I'm looking forward to it in my
anarchist sort of way.
If they won't allow change to their system, may the system self-destruct.
I know how to do without. I've spent my entire life at it.
It's a class struggle we're locked in, there's no denying it, but the people who are accustomed to being downtrodden don't make as much noise as the nouveau-poor would...bring on the crash.

Looking at where IT is going, and how corporations are taking away are livlihoods, what else CAN I say? :-(

18. Side with the hackers! You've never once struck me as a non-hacker.
I was told Friday I've got a meeting Tuesday to "reassess" my position because they're "re-purposing" employees.
Thank heavens the damned trailer will be paid off in two months.

11. wadr
did you think it would be easy? Did you think they would part with their ill-gotten gains without a fight?

Do what you need to do, but if this much conflict drives you insane you're a lightweight. Helpless.

Excuse me if I don't join you in lying down before the New World Order.

13. Good bye politics - hellow activism!
So, we have zero power in the government - let's fight as total outsiders.
"I don't trust the government" rhetoric is now ours.
They are the "evangelists in control of the government". I like my side better - and I intend to keep my activism up. Maybe i, maybe my kids will experience democracy some day. Or it's fascism forever.

15. This setback should energize us not depress us,
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 05:00 PM by dand
Our so called Democratic leaders allowed Republican Fascists to steal the Presidency twice, we need to get rid of every fucking one of them, make a clean sweep, and get some leadership with spines.

16. No way for me
I'm still discouraged, depressed angry but no way is the right wing going to control me. If we all leave politics we are doing just what these idiots want us to do and giving them more support. No way will they win me over or allow me to give up. They want to fight, I am ready for the roller coaster ride but screw them, they are not getting to me. I am proud the way I voted and I am proud of my beliefs.... just give me time to shake the disappointed of Nov. 2. Actually I believe this disappointment will make me stronger, not ready to rollover yet.

The they is the neocons and Karl Rove.
