2. Here's a link for a euro account |
|
You can do it onshore or offshore, probably better offshore, truth be told, as the bank will not be under the bush regime and prone to telling the IRS every single thing you do. http://www.nationwideinternational.com/accounts/accounts_euro_glance.htm

8. You have to sell gold to a dealer |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 08:38 PM by Art_from_Ark
And before you buy any gold, you have to know what you're getting into. You need to read as much as you can first about current production trends, central bank buying and selling trends, etc., then if you want to pursue gold investing, you will then need to find a reputable dealer who has small spreads between his buy and sell prices.
It is definitely "buyer beware" in some cases, like what happened a few years ago when some speculator in Texas was selling 1/10 ounce (3.11 grams) American Eagle gold coins for double their retail value. A person who tried to sell me such coins showed me an ad from America's most expensive coin dealer which listed a retail price of $105 for a PROOF version of the coin. Proofs are special strikes of coins made for collectors, and are more expensive than the regular business strikes the guy was trying to pawn off on me. Retail price at the time for regular business strikes was slightly less than $40, which was half of his asking price.

4. I've been having the same thought myself |

In fact, I've been meaning to buy some Euros for over 6 months now. I think you can buy them through mutual fund companies, like Fidelity. I plan on giving them a call tomorrow.

5. I heard from a ex-currency trader that euros might not |
|
be such a good bet, what with all the internal squabbles there and multiplicity of interests. He advised to buy a stable one country currency.

14. If you have an account with a Canadian bank, |
|
for example, Bank of Montreal, you can withdraw money from the US from an American ATM if you have a BoM bank card. Deposits can be made by wire transfer.

6. Some brokerage houses offer Euro bonds |
|
but I don't know if you can cash them into Euros once they mature.
Opening a special account at an American branch of a European bank might be another way of getting into Euros.
Of course, the Euro is very strong now, so it has downside potential as well, especially if the Europeans decide that the currency is too strong and start to dump it.

7. Can't you guys just get them |
|
through your banks?
What do you do if you go on a trip?
You should be able to exchange US bucks for Euros anywhere, or have a Euro account at your bank you can add to anytime.

10. Getting Euros through a bank that usually does not handle them |
|
can result in a significant service charge of several percentage points, especially if one wants cash. Even banks that frequently handle Euros will charge several percentage points for their fee.
