Sanctimonious horseshit from a Libertarian blogger.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 08:32 PM by NightTrain
Just found this posted to rec.music.rock-pop-r+b.1960s:

http://melissasliberty.blogspot.com/

-- Yours In Liberty, Melissa - Colorado, U.S.A.

Here's what Melissa regurgitated on her blog, with my inimitable commentary:

<<I've loved music all my life, not just rock n' roll, other kinds too. Years ago while enjoying some Wagner, (especially Ride of the
Valkyrie ) someone mentioned to me that he was a racist and anti-semite. I replied at the time that I always try to separate music from the political ideologies of the artists. At least in Wagner's case that was easier because he was long dead.>>

TRANSLATION: Racism and anti-semitism is fine, but being a liberal Democrat is not.

<<But that's become very hard to do lately, as I've shifted my views from being a pro-RKBA liberal Democrat in the late 60's, to becoming a libertarian and Objectivist in the late '90's. As I see a barrage of musicians supporting candidates I consider socialists and destructive of our individual human rights.>>

TRANSLATION: If you're a musician who supports the GOP and whose music reflects that support, this diatribe does not apply to you.

<<Sure artists are entitled to their opinions but when they loudly and publicly join mobs of ugly liberty-destroying socialists in radical political movements, they risk turning off more than half the population to their music.>>

Definition of "liberty-destroying socialist": Any American whose politics are slightly to the left of Atilla the Hun's.

<<For example, years ago I loved the music of Fleetwood Mac, but then I heard that they supported anti-RKBA causes, and when they openly supported Bill Clinton's candidacy, that was the last straw. Since then, when I hear "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow", it's no longer a cheerful happy song for me, but one that supported the election of someone I consider an anti-liberty socialist tyrant who I feel was very destructive of our human rights. And every time I hear a Fleetwood Mac song now, it's smeared and tainted by the loud obnoxious public views that the artists pushed on us along with their music.>>

Bil Clinton was a socialist?! Are we thinking of the same man? The U.S. president who signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996 into law, who fired his surgeon general for suggesting that teen-age masturbation was a viable alternative to teen-age pregnancy, and whose Democratic Leadership Council shifted the party so far to the right it now makes Richard Nixon look like a Green?

Thanks for the laugh, Melissa! That's the funniest damned thing I've read all week.

<<Now the same will be true of Linda Ronstadt, Bruce Springsteen, and the music of several others. They had to loudly and publicly support socialist politics and in my opinion thereby work against liberty.>>

You never knew that Bruce Springsteen was a liberal? Guess you never paid attention to the lyrics of his 20-year-old hit, "Born in the U.S.A."

<<It seems I'm not alone in this sentiment. At http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=40127
in an interview with Alice Cooper:

<<"Shock-rock legend Alice Cooper calls rock stars campaigning for Democrat John Kerry treasonous morons.>>

How does he feel about rock stars who campaigned for Bush? Let me guess: they're all decent, god-fearing patriots. Right, Cooper?

<<The 56-year-old Cooper says he was disgusted to learn the likes of Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, James Taylor and Dave Matthews were hitting the road for a series of concerts designed to help defeat President Bush.>>

Boo-hoo! Poor Alice Cooper. He's had his poor widdle feewings hurt. Go play some golf with Karl Rove, Alice. It'll make you all better!

<<"To me, that's treason," Cooper told the Canadian Press. "I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics.">>

Hey, Cooper: The real "treason against rock and roll" is sell-out jerk-offs who kill the music's soul in the name of making millions of bucks.

"Rock is the antithesis of politics?" Hey, Cooper: Have you ever heard of Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, War, Country Joe & The Fish, the Dead Kennedys, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, Steve Earle, Public Enemy, Ice-T, and Peter Tosh, to name but a few?

<<I wish musicians would just keep on making great music and not destroy our enjoyment of their work by pushing their disgusting anti-liberty political causes into the mix.>>

I wish bloggers would just keep on writing their ignorant drivel and not destroy our enjoyment of Usenet by pushing their disgusting spam into the groups.

I find it interesting that Melissa obsesses over the destruction of our liberties, but at the same time she wants to take away the free speech rights of hundreds of thousands of American citizens only because they're musicians.

In summary: You're full of shit, Melissa! But assholes always are.

1. Another arrogant republican shit for brains. Who cares what she thinks?
I personally go for those who show social conscience and have a message.

Repukes apparently like whining in your beer, singing about a friggin car, God bless white America, don't mind me I have the intellect and social conscience of a slug type music.

God, I'm glad I'm not like that.

2. When you encounter a libertarian, just point and laugh...
they are the spoiled 8 year olds of the political world, and worthy of laughter and humiliation.

6. She doesn't seem to get something
Like that musicians do what they want to with their music and if she can't listen to a certain group's songs without thinking about the politics involved she seriously needs help.
