Clarence Thomas for Chief Justice? |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 09:56 PM by Silverhair
OK, I know that Dudge isn't liked around here, but this is worth it anyway. The story is that Bush is looking at Clarence Thomas as the next Chief Justice. It makes sense politically for them to do that. He is the youngest and most conservative, as well as being black.
The Senate battle should be interesting. Hmmmm, What's Anita doing these days?
Edit: typo

1. Why not? Let's blow it out. |
|
After this next four years, where the Republicans own everything, they won't be elected again for 70 years or so.
They're going to overreach. As long as the voting machine mess is straightened out, they're gone. Their mess is going to be way too big.

3. Sure, moderate Republicans women will love it. And then Arlen |
|
Specter, who so distinguished himself in the Anita Hill testimony, can have the Judiciary committee approve it.
And then the Senate, with defections from some "special" Democrats, will approve it resoundingly!
Good job! That would be really something.

And right now, I think Rove is working to neutralize Specter anyway. Having Thomas as Chief Justice is a scary fucking thought. :(

6. I don't think it will happen |

it is as likely (albiet scary) as Ashcroft become a justice.
These guys are older and the repugs will want their Cheif to be around for a while. They will pick a younger guy--one who can stay in office a longer "life sentence"

7. They won't put a new appointee as Chief Justice. |
|
With a Thomas promotion, they still have to fill an empty seat. So the new guy would be the newest member of the court. With Thomas they have a proven track record and know what they are promoting. Thomas is 56, and that is not old for a Chief Justice. And the new guy would be in his 40s that filled Thomas's old spot.
