If It Gets As Bad As Many Of Us Fear, Who Will The Generals Align With?
Would the military line up with us or them? Damn, I can't believe I'm contemplating this stuff, but I just can't help it, right now.

8. In many countries around the world we intervened on behalf of leaders of
other countries to manipulate the people or worse (condoning or training or favoring the massacres or 'the disappearing of' people - dropping them out of aircraft over the ocean or Andes), just as Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the Rev Moon are intervening to manipulate us today by arrangement with this regime.

4. It won't get that bad
It couldn't. Our society is too modern. Protests, civil unrest...possibly, but not civil war.

That's precisely why it can....because so many people don't think it can happen here, and are not watching out for the signs. My husband always says that..."it can't happen here". Well, what is it, are we so superior to the rest of the people in the world that we think we are too smart to let it happen.

16. Keep thinking that, don't worry..You won't even feel it when Death comes.
You need to start really thinking about whether or not you want to be prepared IF something goes down.

7. Good question.. check this out...
I Google'd the oaths and got this:

http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/faq/oaths.htm

It seems that the enlisted men swear to defend the Constitution but will obey the orders of the President and officers.

<snip>
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).
<end>

but officers swear to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

<snip>
I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)
<end>

so it'll be up to the generals to defend the Constitution... think they'll do it?

9. An oligarchy is forming
between corporations and the military. The military will support the group that promises it the biggest cut of the money and power. That is the corporatists, aka republicans.

17. Bullshit..There are many patriots in the Military that would never
Go against the constitution. They will overtake the ones that Would...BELIEVE me, I served in the 1/75th Ranger Rgt., and I Know how many real patriots there are in the Army. I would NEVER nor would anyone I knew at the time, come down on American Citizens no matter what we were ordered to do. I would have shot my commanding officers, and they knew that full well.

10. Watch for a string of executive orders...
attempting to bypass the will of congress. If that happens, all Hell will break loose. The Supreme Court will attempt to settle the mess, but will then run into major interference by Reconstructionist Christian forces.

The second indicator will be accelerated deficits and a bankrupting of the Federal Government.

I personally do not think civil war would result, but rather a major reaction against the Executive Branch by the military. Ireally don't think they are enamoured with our current Commander in Chief.

The question is what happens next?

There will be no civil unrest nor a civil war. The People are now like the frogs in the water getting hotter and hotter.

This country will slump into something like the old Soviet Union. Accepting their underclass lots and standing in long lines .... because ... well, that's just the way it is. After all, everyone here KNOWS that the government can't solve problems because the government IS the problem.

As this country crumbles, people will become depressed and downtrodden and accept their lot as the natural order of the universe.

By the way, this is the "worldview" that Tom DeLay dreams of. According to the Overlords and the Uber-Christians, we are entering the wonderful world of their wildest dreams. Grover Norquist and Karl Rove are creamin' their jeans.

Purges of "disloyal" military have been commencing since Bush became King of The World in 2000.

Who ya gonna call?

15. Historically, going back to the Third Reich, it was
always important to get the military on your side or you were toast. The military in Germany and Prussia was separate from the government and they either supported the government or didn't. Now, I wonder how our military fits into this. I'd say giving Colin Powell a big piece of the pie sort of helped. I think a lot of high brass got retired very quickly, who didn't want to follow orders way back before 9/11.

Any ideas, military guys? I'm on the sidelines speculating.

18. There will be a small faction of the Miltary that will support Bush
or the FAcist agenda but Many will not. There will be a power struggle and the patriots will win out easily. Those who would go against the constitution are older and more senior and most who know better are the younger officers and most of the general troops. They are not as stupid as you might think. There will be a brief battle but the good guys would overtake the Facists.
