572. Really love this post
All the good thoughts and support and terrific. Love this "rejoin your unit at the front" post because it says it all: there is a front in this war, and you can absolutely count on the fact that John and I will be there.

575. We haven't given up either
It is impossible to believe that Ohio -- where they have lost over 230,000 jobs and have 12 (still vulnerable -- under GWB) chemical plants each capable of killing 1 million people if any was to be successfully targeted by a terrorist attack -- would go to GWB. We all felt the Ohio momentum, even the B-C campaign it seemed felt the movement to K-E ticket -- and yet . . . .

By the way, I am not "in touch" with regular folks. We ARE regular folks. But thanks for the thought.

576. Sorry for the delay in returning to post
We went to North Carolina for the weekend, and I did not have my new password with me. But the adulation is unnecessary -- I have been reading for so long that I really am just another reader, now poster.

580. For the doubting Thomases
I have seen that there are few people who question whether or not this is really me. I puzzled how to "prove" myself. I don't think that anywhere it has been published that I went for one year -- my senior year in high school -- to Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia (now folded into TC Williams) -- but I did and graduated in 1967. The school was named for a Navy Corpsman who died (in Korea I think) and the mascot was an Admiral. Anyway, Digit, can confirm all this.

To "prove" that I have been a reader for a while, blm -- who posted a welcome here -- was a big Edwards' supporter in the primaries. And before the primaries, my husband's name was almost never mentioned on DU.

Another "proof"? DU checked with the campaign when I signed up to see if it was really me; they checked with me and I told them I had, and I think the campaign confirmed it to DU, but I never double-checked to see if that last step happened.

2. Elizabeth is so cool! I hope she continues to post here...she is always
welcome. Maybe Elizabeth can answer this one: Is TC Williams on the way to Olde Town Alexandria (on Route 7)? I think that's the school I used to pass on the way to work when I lived in Falls Church some years ago.

You are in our thoughts, Elizabeth.

3. well, none of this matters one way or another...
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 11:13 PM by bransonfu
but these "proofs" of her authenticity have me leaning the other direction since I know how she speaks. This writing is nothing like the woman I've seen on TV.

But oh well. Like I said before...who cares one way or another? I'm sure if she knows of our well-wishing and thanks she's happy about it regardless.

Just call me a skeptic.

Why would a woman of her position and with so many things on her schedule be specifically posting about doubting Thomases and giving clues like her High School?!?

7. it's okay to say you don't agree. but why STFU?
did I offend your sensibilities that 700 replies might prove to be ultimate gullibility? I didn't say definitely yes definitely no.

just wondering why everyone is so sure.

as I said. doesn't really matter. I'm done posting on the subject.

however, I think you should try to be a little less rude in your replies.

investigative research, progressive thought, and A HUGE SUPPORT of Democrats, in an ACTIVE (as in 'activist') forum? Anyone .....ANYONE, who is curious about politics in this country, is friggin' SLACK if they don't pay attention to DU.

I assure you all at DU that it has been awe inspiring. Even from the aftermath of this election, I can find hope and courage that I can go somewhere where people are sane. I am learning so much and have a long way to go. There is a lifetime of knowledge here. To see Mrs. Edward post shows the validity of such good people. She is inspiring.

I will fight for democracy from the bowls of the Repug party, with your help, the worm will turn.

14. Geez. Okay, you are a skeptic.
I actually spend a great deal of time at the computer -- and expect to spend more in the coming weeks when I understand I will be too tired for much else. For years I have done the content for a web page for high school students -- annotated links to sites that might be useful for homework, and I spend about six to eight hours a day online. I am an old newsgroup user -- even navigating the difference between alt.english.usage and alt.usage.english -- so spending time reading and posting is my version of leisure. I tone it down from the old edgy newsgroup tone, my concession to politics, but like most people I don't write like I talk, and I don't even write on the internet like I write when I sit to write something for a speech or a book.

As for posting about my high school, when I read through the posts, it was the only thing I saw that struck me as personal to me but that had not been in the news or on C-SPAN.

And what exactly is my "position"? I know that candidates talk alot about the internet but apparently you don't actually expect to see them -- or their families -- there. Well, I am here, and I have been here for a long time (back before AOL when Prodigy and Compuserve were the first ISPs), and I expect to be here for a long time to come.

21. i am grabbin on to this post of yours to say thank you for all
the hard work. i watched you all going all over the country, ah you all had to be exhausted. and then i would see you with your little ones. lol i am an old mama with little ones, certainly there are huge advantages but this energy thing, lol in the 40's is way different for me than 20's. beautiful babies, beautiful family. the picture i love the most, your husband by a suv and your little boy went to him, kneeling down to him, eye to eye. that is a person connected with children. always eye to eye. then into a hug. sold me on your husband real easy. also one of the things sold me on kerry was his interaction with little ones.

and teresa, the best. i really connected with her in what felt like her spirituality, her words she chose. oh lordy, how we could have used you all in washington.

thank you for your efforts, you all were a success in my book. i saw when the election turned, i saw when it was being stolen. i am a believer. it was nation wide. you all put forth the effort, the people went out and did the work, the people voted bush out. and i believe he stole it.

anyway, a thank you

You don't know who might be reading your messages ....

My guess is that certain folks are blushing right now. I remember seeing a number of posts that were critical of not just Laura Bush's hair and wardrobe, but the wives of the Dem candidates too! Mrs. Edwards must have a darned good sense of humor, to keep coming back here.

p.s. One more reason to stay out of the Lounge, everyone -- without a campaign schedule to distract her, how long before she's posting copycat threads and (oh, no!) puppy and kitty pictures?

I don't think I have said anything unkind about any of our candidates (OK the Bush family but those weren't my candidates and the way they act... they deserve what they get IMO rotten so and so's)

You said it all though Lisa!

I would never in a million years have envisioned a person (s) involved with the election posting here (on the *internets* LOL)

I do feel rather foolish thinking that people that actually know what they are talking about may have read some of my hare brained theories over the last few months!

family, as well as to the Kerrys and Heinzes. My goodness. I think that so many of us were so crushed when we saw what was happening to the "election" on Tuesday evening, because we all saw how Fantastically Different things Could Have Been Now with you and John, and John Kerry and Teresa in Washington DC. Oh, lord, did I have one of the worst depressions in my life on Wednesday morn.

Thank you for all your tireless efforts to get your messages across. You really, really inspired us all in your very personal meetings with small and large groups of regular people, the intelligence just shone so brightly, the grasp of the issues, and not the least of all, your innate goodness, kindness and compassion.

In short, We Love You!

Please come back to visit with us often. I hope the negative posts don't turn you off. There are lots of others who are thrilled and happy to have you among us. We are NOT giving up this fight.

For instance, besides supporting Bev Harris' blackboxvoting.org. DUers are also fired up to start VOTING WITH THEIR DOLLARS, since they can't seem to trust the other, "official" voting mechanism. There's a "Starve the Beast" movement afoot on DU, in which DUers and their friends and families plan to support Democratic-leaning businesses, and withdraw their patronage of Republican-supporting ones. I hope you can help us spread the word.

48. I sure as hell hope you will be here for a
loooong time to come! Hope you will be ok with treatment.
My sister and I worked our butts off for Kerry-Edwards (by the way I'm Green) and we both admire you and Theresa. Damn! Candidates who could speak English with subject verb object and sub-ordinate clauses, oh my Dog! Even speak other languages!
Concentrate on getting well and hopefully John and John will look into BBV.
Actually, I'm scared shitless, some of my dear friends (most dead now and one whose grandma, an American that trusted the Germans because of U$ family fortune and died in a cattle car to Auswitz) and teacher in HS, were resistance fighters and Jews in France, 14 year-old in Yugoslavia, lost kid with sister in the last fire-bombing of Europe, Royan, SW France (Howard Zinn regrets participating in said bombing in intro to A Peoples' History of the United States).
And being part Mexican, know what American Smelting and Refining and U$ Marines, etc. have done to that country .... personally through my Father (now dead) knew what Reagan or Bu$h I did to Guatemaleans he knew personally (200,000 Guatemalean Indians dead) .....
Please get well and then continue the fight!
LONG LIVE MOTHER JONES!

Don't tell John, John or Teresa, but I enjoyed listening to you speak more than anybody else during this entire Presidential campaign. You say here that you are like any one of us, and that was obvious when you spoke - I could really feel a sense of connection - like I knew who you were. Please get better soon and do not change anything about yourself - do you want to run for President? I will vote for you.

57. The net is inherently democratic (to a fault, sometimes, it seems)
It's good to know that people from all over the planet, with a diverse range of skills and "positioning" can form communities and work cooperatively. (Or do whatever they like.) The potential is only beginning to be realized, and DU has been a part of the vanguard, along with MoveOn and others. Even AAR can be seen as a sort of spin-off, since proof that "the market" was there was based on the streaming done by Mike Malloy Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartman, Peter Werbe, Mike Webb, Bernie Ward and so on, and their audience was built via forums like DU.

The old BBS systems were just a hint of what might become possible, and today gives just a hint of what the (better) future might offer.

(I switched broadband providers recently and had to revert to dial-up for a period, and digging for the needed docs found that they included using Mosaic (AMosaic for the Amiga), and that was an almost miraculous step ahead from the BBS software that proceeded it. Before that was a Commodore 64, and before that a university mainframe with teletype consoles.)

Anyway, welcome, good luck with the treatments, and if things get hard go to the Lounge and gripe and be reminded that people care.

You do make a point though about writing differently online than for books, or even talking. I know I write a lot differently online than how I sound when I talk. Most of us never know because they don't often out themselves (probably because they don't want to get mobbed by fans!), but of course high-profile people would have access to the internet. The only real requirements are a computer and the ability to read, which I guess leaves out W. :P I'm a part-time freelance writer and I've been surprised to discover that there are many, many "famous" people online and we never knew it.

When you were campaigning we knew you were one of us, us moms did :)

You earned our respect as did the rest of your families. Kate was wonderful on the campaign trail and left mothers all over the country proud :) As were John and Teresa's Children, the way you have all raised them is a testimony to the fact you are all great human beings.

I sent you a well wish through Johns senate site I hope you receive it. We are all praying for you and your family right now.

So can you give us a hint whats John gonna be doing now? I bet the little ones are happy campaigning is all done for now :)

83. So glad to hear from you ElizabethEdwards :)
Elizabeth, My name is Jeff, a.k.a pcdoc. I run a small irc chat channel called #kerry-edwards on irc.winbeta.org.

http://www.winbeta.org/irc/kerry.html

After our 'unfortunate setback' on Wednesday morning, I went to http://blog.johnkerry.com , and to my horror, found the site was down...thank god dick b and karen allowed me to post my link for my irc channel briefly that morning so I could gather the faithful from the blog and stay in communication. I CANNOT imagine how we would have felt if we had all been out in our worlds, setting on our couches, alone on that dark morning.

I currently have about 40-60 of the 'official' kerry blog bloggers setting on my channel awaiting word from above on how to proceed from here...how we can continue the momentum we have achieved through internet communications in this campaign. We have found a power in communication that is previously unknown except by people like us 'internet geeks'. This year, we have Grandma and Grandpa down to the Grand kids talking about the political situation on the internet today.

My question to you is this, "Is there a way we can put together a 'new organization' that could put all of the interactive internet activities under one roof, so to speak...to help us cooridinate our activities in the field, and allow for the communication necessary for us to carry out our work?"

If you would like to discuss this further, please email me at pcdoc@winbeta.org, or join our irc chat room and we can visit some more :)

Also, we were devistated at your news of cancer :( God bless you in this trying time, along with your whole family...you are in our prayers.

sincerly, your friends at #kerry-edwards on irc.winbeta.org :)

84. Two confessions.
1. I was a little skeptical that it was really you, although I still replied and thanked you and your family for the contribution they made (and will continue to make) toward improving this nation's sanity. I'll say it again, and thank you as well for taking the time to hang out with us dweebs. And I'm sorry I ever doubted it was you.

2. I bailed on my own county democrats for various reasons. In retrospect I regret this dearly. Not that it would've made the difference in my red state, but at least I would've felt as if I'd really tried.

Not only will I work harder to help progressives through my county democratic organization, I will try to enlist the help of friends and colleagues who feel as I do. Somebody has to take up the slack for those who DID work hard in 2004, and are burned out now. I'm there.

87. The Well...
...I was there (showing my age?).

Mrs. Edwards, I hope you are recovered and feeling better soon! Looking forward to more of your posts here at DU.

I'm still sick and reeling from Nov 2 and afraid I will be for a long time. In IT, and being a 'minority', and middle-aged, I'm worried about my own future with such a terrible economy and such a terrible president.

At my age, I don't have TIME to wait 4-25 years to get this mess straightened out so I can have a decent life. It is now or never. I'm not 20 anymore and don't have time to wait.

It appears it will be never. And, that is what I'm coming to grips with - not just Nov 2nd.

104. I remember when Prodigy and AOL
were all there were out there, too.

We bought our first computer in 1993, a brand new 486, and it had those two on it. It took us a heck of a long time to figure out "the internet," which was so barren back then compared to now.

Nice to see you, Mrs. Edwards. You and your family have my utmost respect and admiration.

Peace be with you and your family.

127. alt.english.usage, etc.
If you can navigate Usenet intelligently, still find content, and know enough about the different groups to know their "personality," you've definitely been around awhile. :-)

As for what you say about candidates, politicians, and their families, etc. on the Internet, I can testify to the fact that many are out there, some, like yourself, quite active. I had the pleasure some time ago exchanging a round of e-mails with Jesse Jackson, Jr. about the Civil War. I maintain a website dedicated to the study of a particular soldier from that war, and he was apparently doing his own, personal survey of Civil War related sites while developing some policy outlines for National Military Park, i.e. CW battlefield, interpretation. I didn't bother to notice who he was when the exchange started ... just another of the many people who e-mailed me with questions, and his e-mail address was rather generic. The chat we had just grew out of a basic question he asked -- I tend to be wordy at times, in case it wasn't apparent -- and went on for quite awhile. He eventually made clear to me who he was and what he was doing and how he would be using the discussion we'd had.

In any case, welcome to DU!!! :hi:

47. Speaking for myself...
...ones way of "speaking" in posts and in RL can be COMPLETELY different. What a burden it would be to be a "household name". While one might want to maintain anonymity (I consider it a game myself), there'd also, in some cases (like wanting to "give hope to the troops") where someone might want to reveal themselves.

Why would she after all she had been through with the campaign and her recent discovery of breast cancer, post on DU? Well anyway, this recent posting doesn't even sound like her to me.

16. Thank you, Merh .....
for starting a new thread for this topic. I think it has done a world of good for DU to have had Ms. Edwards write a note or two on here. In case she may read this thread, I would like to say that even if John Kerry and/or John Edwards are not prone to making any public statements about the effort to address the issue of fraud in the counting of the votes ... it sure would be nice if someone close to the campaign would. We have had Chris Heinz post on DU, and I'd love to hear from him and/or his step-sisters speak out on this issue. A couple others that come to mind are Jimmy Carter and his daughter Amy, who used to be an activist. I believe she was arrested years ago with friend Abbie Hoffman. Though we usually avoid people with criminal records on DU, we'd make an exception in her case. (grin)

44. Yes indeed.....
I think that DU has just as many dedicated people who are ready and willing to invest in democration activities as there were a week before the election. I suspect that many in the other party thought that a Bush "victory" would deflate the democratic left. But people are not only here, they are active in a number of issues.

Although I am only a small part of the effort to attempt to address the voter fraud issue, and though I have full confidence in the ability of those who are presently leading the effort, I think that there are several advantages to having someone such as Jimmy Carter involved. I sincerely hope that Ms. Edwards or someone near her could address this.

To Ms. Edwards: it is obvious that the people on DU have as strong an emotional tie to you and your family & the Kerry-Heinz family as to our own extended families. You have helped to create a sense of hope at a time when hope was hard to find. Again, thank you for what good works you have done, and know that my extended family is praying for you and your family at this time.

37. Encouragement to Young People
Elizabeth,

There are just throngs of young people that are in this DU community. They can use all the encouragment you and John can muster for them.

They worked their hearts out, and their hearts are broken as I am sure yours, John's and the Kerry's are as well. Many of them have not worked long years on political campaigns and have never seen a loss before. Many of them know there were problems with voting and are not sure if they have faith in the system anymore.

We need stong leaders to come out to these folks, and the sooner the better. We can't afford to lose all these hearts and minds over a questionable voting experience. Two in a row is two too many elections with clouds over them. We MUST have strong leadership speak out to them, reassure them that this will never happen again.

We must have someone talking about making sure there are paper trails on all votes.

Elizabeth, we all love you, and are hoping the very best for you in this situation you are going through. We pray and hold the best of thoughts forward on your behalf and we will always be here for you!

Please pass on to the leaders in the DNC we need to hear from them in forceful and emphatic language soon. There was a huge movement that was built and we must keep it active for the future. We accomplished a tremendous amount. Lets keep the young ones encouraged!

Again, we love you and will always be here for you..

No matter where you go, God is...

BTW I was the first one to vote in my county.. I was probably your most ardent supporter here in this area.:)

54. I love you, Mrs Edwards
I was bruised by the results of Tuesday. I am horrified that Americans would vote to endorse the disastrous course they have placed us on. I am horrified by the stark divisions between the people of our nation. I am deeply troubled, and for the first time in my life, fear the future.

My dear Mrs Edwards -- when my hopes were hemorraging -- I had the grace of finding your post here, the quote by Thomas Jefferson which put it all into perspective -- and you not only restored my hope, but you set a high tone by which we shall go into the future. I have been so angry, so bitter -- but you transformed these negative emotions into a noble struggle -- and, madam, I will always be grateful. THAT is leadership, and that is the sort of leader I will stand with.

God bless you my dear. Your friend, and your husband's friend, forever....

588. Trust is hard to come by, I know

Thanks for your best wishes. And it really is me. I posted in response to a post from someone who graduated from the high school I graduated from -- and I don't think that high school is mentioned in anything published about me, to confirm that it is me.

And I signed up the regular way, because I am just a regular poster -- I had signed up some time ago and posted, before the recent "fame" under my first screen name, but felt that I shouldn't hide when posting during the campaign. But the campaign got hectic so fast, and when I had access to a computer I posted on the Kerry blog first, and though I usually read DU, I didn't post then.

I do think someone from DU confirmed with the campaign that this is me.

And as for voter fraud, we are still piecing together the same stuff you are piecing together. I know that the two candidates had been assured that everything was in place -- and there was certainly a lot of visibility. I can't yet blame the people in the field who I believe were working hard to stop the election from being stolen. I don't think -- even in our frustration (and no one is more frustrated than we are) -- that we can say "the Democratic leaders did NOTHING to prevent the election being stolen."

You "sound" great...I'm so glad that you are doing this; you have made my day, and I'm sure a lot of the DUer's. After reading what you had to say about probable (my word) fraud, I believe that Hope Is On The Way, and that you Still Have Our Backs! I really hope that John and John will say together sometime soon "How sweet it is" and the whole universe will agree. You did tell us to be patient in your original post and tonight you've given me a liitle bit more hope for patience.

BTW, Keith Olbermann blogged today about the fraud issue, and will discuss it Monday. One of the first so far in mainstream media, which he discusses on todays blog. (link below)

This is not "adulation" but appreciation. In today's America, we are all "regular folks" fighting against some "other" sort of folks, the sort who think that war and economic regression are good things. The Edwards family has contributed a great deal to that fight. My very best wishes are with Mrs. Edwards and her family.

She has been on here for months, if not a prolific poster, under another name. See, hon, she knows all about you, has probably turned you in to the "Morals Squad" by now. Be afraid, be very afraid.

66. Thanks
Thanks for compiling Elizabeth Edwards responses here. I was one who asked how is it possible to know it's really her posting and this goes a long way towards answering that question!

My thanks also to Mrs. Edwards -- for everything. I still don't understand why Sen. Kerry did what he did in conceding so quickly, but I'm sure all will be revealed in time.

Finally, Mrs. Edwards, Godspeed in a full recovery from your current challenge.

70. I think it is great that politicians read this site...
It shows that we are a force to be reckoned with and that they are in touch with what the "regular joes" are thinking. I welcome Elizabeth Edwards, Chris Heinz too. Now that they have a little more time on their hands, I hope that they will contribute on a fairly regular basis.

With that said Welcome Mrs. Edwards :hi: I hope to hear more from you.

I met you in Phoenix and thought you were wonderful. You are so empathetic. My good friend Kelly worked your advance team and now one of your biggest supporters ,who traveled to Iowa and North Carolina with you, Sherry, whom you wrote about in your blog, is on my team in Phoenix! Thank you for everything and the inspiration you have been especially to young women everywhere! My best wishes for a speedy recovery and my grateful thanks to your husband and your wonderful family. Tell John to keep his eye on the vote fraud because if we don't do something now, it won't matter who we nominate in the future.

76. You so rock, Elizabeth (and about your husband)
I posted before that we had met briefly at a dinner in October. Very briefly, but I was so touched by the heartfelt eloquence with which you spoke later that evening I felt like I could have sat down with you and had a great chat when it was all over. It kills me that they call liberals "elitists." There is nothing whatsoever elitist about you or John.

But I haven't mentioned the meeting I had with your husband. He came to my town long before anyone was paying attention to the primaries, and he asked to meet with a few of us, and I was privileged to have that meeting with him. 4 or 5 of us had a chance to sit down and talk privately with him -- clearly one is not truly campaigning when they ask to meet with just a few people -- so I was touched that he cared enough about the issues that concerned us to ask for that meeting. It was very clear to me that he cared about the things we face everyday. I don't mean to sound cynical, but that is pretty rare these days.

You know this, I'm sure, but he is a great listener. And when he speaks, he speaks with compassion and understanding. When he shakes your hand his other arm reaches around your shoulder and pulls you in, almost in a hug, and again, you can feel that the cares.

I saw him again a few months later - this time in a crowd of about 30. When he spoke, again the caring was evident. He is passionate and has a remarkable ability to connect with folks. When he was done speaking he came up to me and said "I know you - you're xxxx." Now I have to tell you, that just amazed me. After my stunned silence I said "John, you HAVE to win. We need you!"

He said, "I will." Confidence, caring, compassion - he exuded them all. So, he didn't win this time, but who knows what the winds of change may bring? We still need him ... now more than ever. I hope he is not done with politics quite yet.

This was a tough election for all of us. I know it must have been really tough for you folks. Then to get sick, I don't know what to say but to wish you the best and let you know you and your family are in my prayers. Today was a really hard day because they are back on the FMA thing again, and we are all just so tired, and I know you must know how that feels. You hardly get a chance to breath before something hits you again. It was really, really tough on my son. He's just 12 and he doesn't understand all the hate. He says the country is sick like a cancer, but we can't lay down and die - we have to fight and if we do we will beat it. And he is right - wise beyond his years. So we share the challenge with you.

God bless you, Elizabeth, and your wonderful family.

If you would like to discuss this further, please email me at pcdoc@winbeta.org, or join our irc chat room and we can visit some more

Also, we were devistated at your news of cancer God bless you in this trying time, along with your whole family...you are in our prayers.

sincerly, your friends at #kerry-edwards on irc.winbeta.org

89. ALL that and BRAINS!!
Ya know, I caucused my butt off for John Edwards in Iowa. I was devoted! ...I will admit it was a hard toss up between him and Gephart! But John had a fire in him like no other candidate. When I seen you and the kids....I knew that was the choice for me. AHHHhh... A Mother that knows about Motherhood!! You look like someone I could sit down with for coffee! Someone that actually could throw the kids in the car and hit the mall for a smoothie. A Mother that has actually changed a diaper. I know, I know you are way above me financially, but something about you it just so real... human. OK so all of that was really corny. But really that is how I feel . I am still so bummed! But hey, someone has other plans for you... like
#1 : taken care of YOURSELF!!
#2 : Working on 2008!

:-) Your Iowa Friend

90. Rural America
I hope the Edwards' family doesn't give up on rural America - way up here on the MN/ND border I found so many people that loved you. There was a connection - and I am amazed at how many rural men just love Elizabeth! (including my husband) Even in counties up here that are colored red - there are still at least a third of the people that did not vote Bush - and our "ruralest" county went blue. I so hope that John Edwards and family do not disappear - I thought all along that he was the candidate for rural America. Unfortunately, people don't vote for vps. Lots of rural people are praying for your recovery!

I watched you on C-SPAN several times during the campaign; your town hall meetings were incredibly fascinating. In short, I think you're brilliant. Thank you for explaining so much so well.

I'm hoping and praying for your quick and complete recovery.

The world needs you (and others like you) in positions of respect and repute to disseminate common sense and concern for the greater good.

Sincerely,

Joe McGonagle (29) from Minneapolis--Another regular person trying not to fall behind in these tough and troubling times.

(On edit: I probably posted this to the wrong thread--Oh well.)

97. Courage
Dear Mrs. Edwards,

Thank you for being here and offering us courage. We will need it in the days, months, and years ahead.

I also am sending positive healing thoughts your way in the battle you face.

Once the election was called, I felt such despair. I wasn't sure what to do or what to think or even whether to go on at all or not. Then I remembered the courage Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton showed in the face of all opposition. Sadly Susan did not live to see what she accomplished but millions of us owe her a debt of gratitude and now it is our time to pay interest on it by helping to voice her ideals. We cannot now or ever give up on them. While compromise can sometimes be valuable there are some things that should never be compromised away, one of them is equal rights for all.

I hope the Democrat party will remember that too and continue to follow in the courageous footsteps of those like Anthony and King, it may not make us popular but it will make us patriots in the truest sense of the word.

107. I'm so happy you are here. It's the beautiful thing about the internet.
For those of us that have been foot soldiers in our various state orgs, it's really nice to be noticed and heard.

Some of us are very much interested in taking up the project by Professor Lakoff to reframe our positions in a way that better communicates them. If you are interested, we're thinking of starting a book club about his book in the meeting room. If you want to kill some time during treatment, we'd love to have your input.

Again, you have my sincere wishes for successful treatment and a speedy recovery. My entire liberal Democratic family wishes you well.

118. I don't doubt that
but what the poster used as proof isn't technically true - during the primaries, "blm" was one of the best known Kerry supporters. I mention "AP", because that poster, (who also uses just initials), was one of the primary Edwards' supporters.

I'm not trying to argue - but this is the internet, and it's way too easy to be taken for a ride. It would be nice if the administration would confirm celebrity posters. (assuming they can) I know they did it with Chris Hienz.

Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 08:20 PM by AP
like saying the sun comes out during the day. It definitely wouldn't have been proof of how long she has been reading DU.

If I remember correctly, blm was an early supporter of Edwards who then became a Kerry supporter. I think blm was the only one to switch camps before the primaries.

If I do remember correctly, when blm switched and it was like a dagger through the heart. OK. It wasn't that bad, but it was a sign of trouble, probably.

EE proved that she's been reading a long time if she remembered blm as an Edwards supporter.

And I've been here for a while--didn't know blm had been a Edwards gal! But yup, she was always saying it was going to be a Kerry/Edwards ticket, and I always thought she should have gotten a medal or something for that LOL.
