Everyone Stop Freaking Out!
I am absolutely disgusted at the threads I've seen here. Threads about giving up, threads about wild conspiracies of hacking the vote (I grant you that there are a few voting irregularities but that's not enough to steal the election), and threads about moving to Canada, and etcetera, etcetera.

Everyone, get on your bearings! Stop freaking out! You know why the Republicans succeed? They don't freak out like we do, and they don't engage in a lot of navel-gazing and what-ifs. We have to buck up, and figure out a plan on how to take our country back from those Republicans.

A few days ago, I was all ready to give up, but I'm determined to fight back! I will spend the next four years of my life entirely dedicated to beating this Bush administration and making sure that the Republican party will be in tatters by the end of the Bush administration's second term. I am doing this because I want my children to grow up here, and I am doing this to protect my family from these Republicans.

I will NOT yield one inch on my political beliefs, and I will not cede the religious right to claim my political beliefs as their own without having the legislative actions to back them up. I am going to fight because our forefathers fought against oppression, and I still believe in the potential that this country engenders upon us if we are determined AND disciplined enough to stay on message, and to fight for our country.

32. Congraulations slinkerwink
You are now being baptized into the phenomena where when you make a reasonable statement, people come and assume you have all sorts of extreme positions. Say something they don't like, and you are assumed to be against everything they believe.

That's how someone who doesn't know you can asume you've never given to BBV. You pissed them off. You did the unspeakable. You asked that they stop spewing hatred.

This is one of the most important issues we are likely ever to work on....
and those threads you find excessive are one very good way to ensure all DUers (new and old alike) do find out the latest on what is going on and what they can do to help.

Your intentions may be good, but to equate the work being done to uncover election fraud with whining/moaning, escapist expatriation threads, or random conspiracy theory is really a slap in the face to people like Bev Harris and others here who are working so hard on this issue. This is a critically important issue and our findings may be the only hope for the kind of change that wll be required to ensure valid elections for the future.

Please rethink your harsh criticism of your fellow DUers, Slinkerwink. It is really, really missplaced, IMO.

I had my cry, Nov. 3rd, as I have said. But I have decided to approach this from an issue point-of-view. I'm going to join the orgs and financially support the orgs that address the issues that I thought that a Kerry/Edwards administration was going to address.

That's where I'm starting anyway.

43. Slink, you are right, but...
Everyone deals in their own way and time. This has been traumatic. For all of us. Let the catharsis happen and die down naturally.

There have been too many recriminations amongst us already. I want to see it end. That said, if only 25% of what is collected data is true, then Josh Marshall will have to rethink his usage of the words "tectonic shift". That tends to make people freak as well.

We each have our own coping mechanisms. Each in his or her own way.

59. There's no way to "unify" when
people like you are dismissing, insulting, patronizing and preaching at those of us who KNOW that this election was also stolen and are simply trying to pull together the information, data, analysis and game plan to try to save democracy while we still can.

It's one thing to be ill-informed on the subject OR more content in denial than reality (whichever fits), it's another entirely to pontificate as if YOU have "the answers" (hint: you don't) and treat those of us working on the problem derisively.

So your call to "unify" is -- well, insulting in and of itself, given your dismissiveness of the issue and those discussing it. You would probably do well to go actually read those "200 hysterical threads" you apparently are rejecting out of hand.

IOW: go unify yourself.

Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 12:03 AM by hlthe2b
We are just at the start of detailing what went on. I don't think any of us know for sure the extent......

Whether it changes the election outcome or not, these investigations are 1)deadly serious; and 2) critically important if we are EVER to have faith in this or future elections?!

I can't help but think you do a major disservice to your colleagues who are spending countless hours and their own $$ trying hard to document the extent of problems in this election. Our future right to vote and any chance to ensure a fair election, may well depend on it. Your comments denigrate their efforts.

One last thing if there is voter fraud (which I don't doubt) if we ignore this for fear of looking like we are sore losers than we truly lose especially the new voters that registered to vote under the guise that their vote counts. just my opinion

57. I'm not freaking out
but I definitely disagree with you on the election issue.

All you have to do is read all the documented stories that have come out (and remember, these are only the stories we KNOW about) to come to the conclusion that, in all likelihood, this election was stolen via dirty tricks, certain races in 2002 were rigged, and 2000 was rigged.

This year the rigging happened in more places than in 2000. Just my opinion.

Withouth getting this issue settled, everything else is pretty much academic. I mean, how can we even go forward if we don't have any assurance of clean elections?
