prayer at parents' church |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 12:43 AM by pop goes the weasel
So my folks today told me that they were reassured by the main prayer at their evangelical church. Seems the prayer giver devoted the entire prayer to asking God to save the United States from 1. the war, 2. the attack on civil liberties, 3. the collapse of the wall between church and state, 4. the poor economy, 5. the deteriorating environment, 6. the enmity of all mankind, and 7. leaders who commit terrible acts in the name of God.
Well, I must say that I find that development encouraging. Go, ye regular Christians, and rise up against the fraudster in chief.

I said I was going to turn off the Sunday talk and go back to church. I think more people spend their Sundays this way than in front of the TeeVee. I know there are lots of church going folks who condemn the war and find the abandonment of the Golden Rule pretty hypocritical. I guess we need to take our churches back from the fundies.

apparently in the 50s, elementary school students actually sang that song "praise god, and pass the ammunition..." la la la.

traditionally stays out of politics, as well as most social actions, putting stress on individual freedom of conscience. That someone is worried enough about political events to have brought it up in the congregation in the form of a prayer is astounding.

10. Prayer at my new church: that god forgives the church for criticizing... |

...Kerry and helping a person whose policy is not Christian get elected.
My first act of getting my church organized progressively: a loud amen to that. I wasn't alone.
