Can we stop calling them "moral values" and call them what they are
"Moronic shortcomings"

No, seriously, they aren't moral values. They are personal beliefs. And somehow calling them moral values makes them seem noble. There is nothing noble about the "Values" that supposedly won this election.

1. What's wrong with "moral values"?
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 01:48 AM by Old and In the Way
It's not like they value morals or anything.

3. Or better yet.
Skew the polls; we all say moral values are most important to us and are voting for <insert Democratic candidate>.

5. just a euphemism for bigotry
those who truly value human life would be outraged and heartbroken by the bloodshed of innocents in Iraq

6. And what exactly are "immoral values"?
If there are moral ones, there must be immoral ones, right?

I'd like to see a list, dammit! I may not be fulfilling my potential as a bogeyman for the right.

9. I’m all for moral values just as long as
they don’t infringe on mine or the greater good of the nation state.

When you’re right, you know it. When you’re wrong, you have to cheat. Their values are fucked by their actions.

11. Define a "moral value." Does it go from one to five? Ten?
What is the moral value of turning a girl onto the street because she has become pregnant out of wedlock? What's it worth? Is it on a scale or simply a dollar amount?

Make them scared to death to use the words.

13. Face it. It's in the eye of the beholder.
I would like to enlighten everyone, but I've been shunned by my own family in the process.

14. *I* choose candidates based on their moral values...
and I would NEVER vote for any of the current administration!! :spank: Their "moral values" include personal attributes such as: bigotry, racism, narcissism, conceit, pride, pomposity, materialism, self-interest, greed, neglect, thoughtlessness, cruelty, barbarism, sadism, fraud, deceit...I could go on & on. :puke:

15. No. We need to reclaim moral values.
We need to take American values and ram them up the Right's ass. Compassion. Hope. Equality. Fairness. Mutual support. Nurturing. Investment in our future and in our children's futures. Take them and redefine the values war. I guarantee that while we won't take their base, we can take the independants. If we start holding real values close to our hearts, the American people will see that their values are based around hate and ignorance. We have the true values. But we need to show America.

18. Reclaiming stolen phrases is important
either by turning them back around to their true meaning, or by naming them accurately.

I haven't thought through one for moral values yet, but I routinely (since long before it was used in the convention) have used the phrase, "family values means valuing all families" (or "when I hear someone referring to family values I know if is code for 'I don't value your family'")

I also refer to the DOMA/amendments as Marriage discrimination amendments.
