Mark Sanford for President 2008? (GOP)
I'm curious this guy hasn't gotten more press as a GOP candidate. My own guess is that after the next 4 years will be disastrous(I, against all reason, am, for my own sanity, keeping alive a pinch of hope that the next 4 years will be moderate, peaceful, and prosperous. country over party. but, yeah.. like that's gonna happen).

The Democratic Party will have a hotly contested primary with people like Hillary Clinton, Bill Richardson, Evan Bayh, John Edwards, Phil Bredesen, Mark Warner, Wesley Clark, Mike Easley, possibly John Kerry, possibly Al Gore, possibly Howard Dean.

The GOP will be in the midst of an internal civil war, as moderates clash with conservatives, foreign policy moderates (Hagel) clash with foreign policy hawks (Giuliani). I think Frist offers them the best chance at a "unifying" candidate, but he's nothing more than a partisan hack.

I wonder if the GOP nominee won't wind up being Mark Sanford, the Governor of S.C. I have no idea what degree of bad he is (or, if, he is shockingly, pretty decent - I'm sure SC DU'ers can inform me of him). The conservative press seems to really like him and a lot of people in the Republican base see him as a rising star.
