trendy republican (is there such a thing?) admits GOP backwards-thinking
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 05:42 AM by wyldwolf
The Club MCCXXIII is one of the swankiest nightspots in Washington. Trendy young Republicans crowd the bar. Young Democrats mingle on the floor above. That's politically divided America.

"I celebrated, but don't tell anyone," said Christina Handley, casting her eyes around her gym club in the US capital.

But it is not surprising Republicans feel lost in the city: Ninety percent of Washington's voters supported Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry (news - web sites) in Tuesday's election.

"You've got to be discreet," said Handley, who generally supports Bush.

"The American population is very forward looking. There will still be healthy debates," she opined.

So, what Christina Handley is admitting is that, despite Bush's win, America is still "forward thinking" - meaning that it wasn't forward thinking to vote for him...

...or am I reading too much into this?

1. You are reading too much into it...
...she's "generally" supports Bush, which means her powers of analysis and judgement are impaired. She thinks "America" is still "forward looking" (not thinking, as you said), which means, I guess, that the American population will stare down the train, which will stop its rolling right over them, or so she's hoping.

2. Its just more BS about Bush supporters pretending they are opressed
Funny thing is, these people talk out of both sides of their mouth. They will talk about how Bush won in a landslide, how it was a clear mandate for the president, and that he is the overwhelming chioce of the people.

Yet, at the same time, they will say shit like "I am afraid to tell people I support Bush. I can't speak my mind."

Please...

And, yes, by the way, that confused me too. Surely she can't believe that people who vote Bush are "forward thinking"... Isn't that the opposite of "conservative"?
