HOLIDAYS COMING - Let's not buy gifts, donate money instead |
|
to Democrat groups, local candidates, progressive groups, buy and donate progressive magazines to libraries, whatever else you can think of.
My family has everything it needs and nobody is getting gifts this year except my little boy. I plan to donate monies I would have spent to fight Bush and the right wing.

I usually knit my holiday presents but I don't think I'll have enough time for any more than a pair of wooly socks for everyone.
other things I have given before that don't require shopping at a store:
*subscription to a great alternative magazine like the Nation, or the Progressive, or Mother Jones or Ms. can change a budding activist's life!
*for those still non-political or who have everything I ave give a subscription to the Onion. We get it for free here in Madison. satire is VERY important.
*also those "NOT ME!" bracelets- everyone will be getting one of those this year

Dear ______
Please note that I was going to buy product X for my sister, but because you advertise on Y, I cannot, in good faith, support your company.
Sincerely,
Z

For those who feel they must have gifts, my women's group does a gift exchange each year. The rules are: handmade and no more than $10 spent on materials. There have been baked goods, flavored oils, sampled CD's, calligraphied quotes, small needlepoint items, homemade applesauce, bead jewelry, stationery, even a decoupage dildo. :-) It's a nice way to discover your creativity. And then take the money you aren't spending and give it to Democratic and Progressive causes and candidates.
