Let's Review The Previous Attempts To Suppress Iraqi Insurgents |
|
1. Shock and Awe
At the very start of the war, the thinking was that we'd hit Iraq so hard, so fast, that the Iraqis wouldn't dare resist us.
That didn't work.
2. The Deck of Cards
Remember the deck of cards for various Saddam leaders? We found and jailed most of them. This was supposed to stop the insurgents
That didn't work.
3. Killing of Saddam's Sons
They were supposedly leading the resistance. Once they were killed, the attacks on coalitions forces would stop.
That didn't work.
3. Capturing of Saddam
It was a Christmas present to the world. Surely now, the attacks would subside since his capture. The world was a safer place. Only Howard Dean said that we were not safer. In fact, the worst month for killing U.S. soldiers would come in April 2004, five months after the capture of Saddam.
That didn't work.
4. Transfer of Power to the Iraqis
Kay, now that the control of Iraq was in the hands of the Iraqis themselves, the insurgency would surely slow down. In fact, the pace of U.S. casualties matched or exceeded the pace in before the transfer of power.
That didn't work.
So, that brings us to the potential siege of Fallujah, and everyone is saying the same thing. This will show U.S. resolve and liberate the Iraqis. What people don't understand is that the Iraqis themselves don't want us there, and they will continue to resist us at every turn.

5. So with each bombing run, we're helping the Iraqi homebuilders. |

All the freedom holes left by our bombs can be lined and made into swimming pools.
