8. The men weren't allowed to leave!
As a wife and mother this is something that hurt me deeply: all men between 15 and (I think) 45 were not allowed to leave the city. It's the "Line 'em up and God'll sort 'em out" thinking that will kill plenty of non-insurgents and create a fresh set of people willing to kill and die to get rid of the troops in their country.

I certainly understand the tactical problem of identifying insurgents in an urban area, but this "tough shit" solution is a failure. How are the troops gonna be able to tell when to stop shooting? Does everybody have to die? 21st century war with effing 19th century tactics...

10. I have a 15 year old son and I am outraged
that we are FORCING Iraqi boys to stay and be slaughtered. Where is the MORALITY in that?

14. So what you are saying is that innocent men and boys are being held
hostage and so they be slaughtered? Can this be possible? Isn't that how the Jews were treated by the Nazis?

My God, what have we become?

15. Not exactly
I *personally* (and I realize there will be disagreement) would not use the word hostage, because that refers to a very specific kind of situation, and I myself would not apply it here. My stand is that male civilians ages 16-44 do not comprise the entire fighting population, and by defining the fighters solely on the basis of being a man in that age group, we are not only making a tactical error, but bombing our way into a moral outrage.

9. I heard no men under the age of 45 were being allowed to leave
I heard that this morning on MSNBC from a reporter by phone (out of Iraq). I wonder if that includes male children and babies... hey isn't there some other writings about certain male children getting whacked?

16. Uh-huh, just what I was thinking yesterday...
"And what's your mission?"

"To kill the ENEMY!"

And that was the end of the soundbyte. Now, what would the next logical question be?

"And who is the Enemy?"

Here we enter into conjecture...

"Anyone who doesn't LOOK like ME!"

"What about civilians?"

"My Commander says our intelligence is that there ARE no civilians in that city!"

And so it goes. 80% of 'em voted for the guy who put 'em there....

17. God have mercy on us.
Those are our soldiers. They fight in our name. The blood they spill is on our hands.

20. They don't fight in MY name and the blood of the Iraqi is NOT
on my hands.

Anyone who voted for bushie -- the actions of the troops are on their hands and the blood of both sides is on their hands.

I will NOT take responsibility for something I had NO voice in.

on the other hand if you (lurking Freepers) voted for bush -- you will never get the blood of your hand.

18. So now ALL male in ALL of Iraq know that they are now
considered the enemy -- and thus thousands of potential freedom fighters have been created.

Who knows which city will be the next target -- males not allowed to leave -- removed to "reservations".

This was the same policy used by the US military in their "pacification" of the Native American population -- that and smallpox tainted blankets (in Iraq Depleted Uranium).

21. Yeah, in their homes. How did their prayer to Jesus play in the Muslim
world? I mean come on, I know those "moral voters" the press can't get enough of eat this shit up, but, should we really show the world that our Christian soldiers are destroying a Muslim city? We are stupid.
