I don't care what religion you are. Fight the hatred and oppression. Defend yourself against the true bigotry instead of blanketing everyone with accusations. Learn the difference between actual bigotry, and criticism of the right that likes to hide behind a facade of Christianity. It's not that difficult. I understand religious beliefs are very personal, and it can hurt when you're feeling attacked. Deal with those people who DO attack by responding to them, or hit the alert button. Whining about how we on the left are driving out the Christians with our bashing divides us, and is baseless. This is a message board. There are all kinds of people here. And some of us are tired of the right. We're going to be vocal about it. We were sucker punched when the biggest "Christian", who wants to turn this country into a theocracy and has made no secret of it, got another 4 years.

Rant over.

1. I'm tired of people self-indulgently whining about people whining.
Jeez why can't we all try to get along?

Different forces have shaped all of our worldviews in myriad ways. Why do we pick on any one group.

You guys who are bashing liberal Christians, why do you stereotype them by the basest of so-called Christians, the religious right?

I have seen MANY open-minded Christians at DU who are accepting and loving of ALL people and lifestyles. They have NOTHING in common with the fundamentalists, whose belief system is centered on hate.

This is such a turn-off--this constant struggle between Christians and athiests.

If some of you would open your ears and listen, you would see that many Christians here have done NOTHING to harm you, and have stood up in their communities against bigotry against minorities, gays and lesbians, and women.

Please, for the love of (insert deity or philosopher), let's try to get past the arguments and embrace the central tenets of our political ideology, which are diversity, tolerance, and acceptance.

We need to be attracting people to our party, not dissuading people with these stupid fights.

All I am going to say on the topic. I am soooo sick of the baiting here.

You got me. My whole point was to turn Christians against Atheists and vice versa. It wasn't to unite against the religious right. You saw right through me. So sorry to trouble you reading a post of mine. Because I post original threads in GD all the time.

Edited: DU was supposed to be GD.

Edit again: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so harsh. I'm just so tired of feeling like we can never criticize the religious right, who really don't act like they're religious, without accusations flying. It's like accusing someone of heterosexual bashing every time we discuss fighting the FMA, or argues against abandoning the issue so we can win the presidency.

2. I think it had more to do with hate towards the gays then anything.
Sure they try to wrap it up in god but I also know they put gay marriage on alot of ballots. This is what is most sickening to me.
I cry, literally cry for my gay brothers and sisters.Gay bashing has always been a rally cry for the reTHUGlicans.
My christian faith is what makes me a liberal.I learned to care for the elderly, sick, poor, hungry ,hurting and those not as well off in my church. That people want to use my faith as a weapon of hate not only makes me very angry but hurts, confounds, and betrays me.

True Christian faith is based on progressive ideals. I am no longer a Christian, but I still hold on to many of the ideals I learned from my time as a Christian. And I do know that many people bolster their liberal ideals through their faith. At the same time they know that morality can come from many other aspects. Thank you for this response.
