13. You've heard of Colorado City, Utah, I think
I've always wondered when the government was going to crack down on THAT. On the other hand, while I REALLY don't trust Republican government; I'm not all that sure I trust Democratic government either, and I don't know that much about the event itself. In general, do people at DU A) buy the official story, or B) have pet conspiracy theories of their own? I got into an argument with a freeper, who brought up WACO. As I recall, no one was indicted, but two FBI officers were fired. It seems to me as if gun-toting militants are tempting fate - what does everyone here think? Please don't flame me.
I came here, cuz I definitely don't want to hear it from a Freeper.

I used to live 40 miles from Colorado City and it disgusted me the way those women, and their children, were treated.

And, the way they "Bleed the Beast" by taking tax dollars for welfare, WIC, etc. from the rest of the country while contributing very, very little tax money on their part.

ABC's 20/20 did a good expose last year.

EDIT: ABC link didn't work.

26. No, I haven't
but I have seen a variety of exposes. Those honery conservatives will file just about anything under "religion," but we can't have gay marriage (which I've been spelling wrong all day).

29. Two FBI officers were fired over Waco?
Interesting, since that's two more people than Bush could be bothered to fire after 9/11.

14. One thing about Waco,
I didn't think our government handled it right to begin with, but that's going down another road I don't want to go down right now because it involves that other shootout, Ruby Ridge. What I wanted to say is that leaders who rule by religion and fear always want to take their followers with them when they know their gig is up.

In Hitler's final days, he issued an order to destroy everything that could help Germans survive after defeat. He ordered all food supplies destroyed, fields burned, livestock killed, coal and oil destroyed, railroads destroyed, just everything. If he was going to die, no one else should survive either. Fortunately, for once in the Third Reich, the Nazis didn't carry out his orders.

I wonder what the Bushlers have planned for us when their empire starts collapsing?

16. we kept our Democratic house member
Chet Edwards won against a reprensible republican (Arlene Wolgamuth) who brags about dropping kids from the CHIPS program. She was sponsored by the Club for Growth. DeLay desperately wanted to get rid of Chet, but failed to do so. So, the rightwingers are pissed that bush's adopted home still is represented by the Democratic Party.

Waco has many liberals who work and teach here. Sure, we are outnumbered, but not all of us are redneck, biblethumpers.

Let's not stereotype.

21. Well Bless your heart,
we kind of live on stereotype here and its hard to shut it off. I heard recently that about 43% of the "red state" populations voted for Kerry and Kerry got 47% of his support from rural areas - so we in the Red States are not all Bushies. A lot of the people who voted Democratic look as much like "rednecks" as the people who voted Republican. The only way to REALLY know is to talk to them.

22. Regardless of the outcome....
when ATF agents with warrants come to your door, shooting them is wrong.

No government on Earth could allow such a thing. If Koresh felt he was being unfairly targeted, he had recourse in court. Killing the agents sealed his own dooom.

It's really sad children and other innocents were caught up in his insanity.

23. It's being repeated in Fallujah.
The asshole tough guys who call the shots in matters like these would rather have a bloody conflagration than follow the course that makes true sense, that accomplishes the goal and that ought to scream out to them inside their heads as the only rational solution:

Surround them and wait them out !

30. Someone once described it this way
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 05:22 PM by bunkerbuster1
He was a regular poster to the misc.fitness.weights newsgroup; anyway, he said, paraphrasing here, that the Davidians worshipped a bible that included the Book of Fuck.

It was a lot funnier when he wrote it, though.

32. I think that law enforcement in general is out-of-control
Our prison population has grown to 2 million under administrations of both parties.

I think going after civillians with military equipment, especially for law enforcement purposes, is insane 99.9% of the time (someone may come up with an exception that I agree with, but I doubt it).

In all of these cases the government set an example, one that it is displaying again in Iraq - kick ass, kick ass, kick ass.

When the cops come to arrest you, DON'T shoot at them, because they will shoot back, and they will probably kill you.
