Do you realize what would happen if the presidential results were changed?
The country would go nuts.

Not making any right-or-wrong statements.

I just think we'd be on a path towards civil war

and rejected punchcards are counted in Ohio, I'm pretty sure Kerry will win.

if it were found that there really had been a Kerry win, and they DIDN'T change the results, it would have undermined the entire process and political belief system or the most powerful country in the world.

Absolutely ...
It does not matter who claims victory, and who concedes. The winner will be verified by the vote total (or one would think).

Think it would be unbelievable if something did occur to change our now accepted outcome.

The Repukes, will know what it means to have an election stolen from them.

Cheers

Yeah, I've thought of this too, but I think no matter what happens we have big problems.

I just cannot remember any election that has been this "ugly".

If my candidate didn't win, usualy it's "Ok, move on, next time", but this has affected us all very deeply, because GW is just a very bad President.

I even feel guilty saying that out loud! The nuns might hear. Too much Catholic school. What can I say?

13. Respectfully offered: You're Wrong
The number of people happy that * won far exceeds the number who would approve of a fraudulent election. This would give K-E about 10-15% in popularity and people would be very happy. Equating the * vote with the percentage of people in this country who want us to become a third rate banana republic is an incorrect assumption.

If this puppy was faked, there will be Hell to pay; and it won't be hostility toward the real winners, it will be rage at f*** face and his crew. Count on it.

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

But, I understand where you are coming from--- it would truly be a mixed blessing, but that is also largely a consquence of how bad things are. Bush* has truly been disastrous.

19. It is highly unlikely
If the election was stolen (I concede a strong possibility that it was) There would have to be Proof. Maybe I am still too depressed, but I beleive, even if it occured, it would be near impossible to prove. No audit trail, no proof.

If indeed it was proved that Kerry won, it would be forever a tainted presidency. I don't care of you had the perpetrators on National TV admitting the fraud, there would be no hope for acceptance or a functional presidency. I do not think a Civil War, in the truest sense is a concern. There are always militants on all sides of the issues, but the majority don't get that worked up. I used to have faith in the electorate, but find I have lost it.

Is an attorney in DC and has worked for Kerry.

Has anyone spoken to her? Has she declared it fraud? Sounds unproven to me. The burden of truth has not been proven in my estimation. Could be a very elaborate hoax.

But the alternatives are riskier. Postponing the crisis makes it more likely to be violent.

A bi-partisan effort to restore democracy is the first step. That is in our hands now. Failing that, the divisions become worse and violence more likely.

(Not that I permit myself to think for more than a nanosecond that the results will be overturned, at this point.)

Yeah, the wingnuts would piss and moan, and talk a good game about an armed struggle. And then they'd go back to being the all hat/no cattle wimps they've always been.

The real civil war was a long time ago, folks. The individual states had far more power, far more relative firepower, than they do today.

Motherfucking brainless shitbags tell us to "get over it". Let's see them get over it. Let them wallow in their fucking fears of 50 ft tall gay fetuses roaming around and marrying their cousins. Let THEM spend the next 4 years of their life subject to a government they don't recognize as "legitimate".

They still would be better off than we were the last 4 years, because they still would have the media whores echoing their every lie.

And how much effect would this have on Congress??
Probably not enough. Would it be enough to make Arlen Specter, Lincoln Chaffee, and the other few Repubs with brains jump the fence?

A lot of interesting possibilities, if it can be made to happen.

Besides haven't we been hearing from the other side how this nation is too strong for something like that?

If there is a problem, now is the time to fix it -- regardless of its effect on the presidential election. It's more important for people to be able to trust their government and their elections.
