96,000 NEW voters in New Hampshire on election day, GOP complains

MANCHESTER (AP) – The state wants to know how many people registered to vote in New Hampshire on Election Day without being able to prove they live in the state or have U.S. citizenship.

The Secretary of State’s office is planning to send letters asking the question to voter registration officials today, according to The Union Leader...

But Jim Merrill, New Hampshire Republican Party lawyer, said the system invites abuse.

“I think we ought to look at it and say to ourselves how can we change it to make it better,” he said.

More than 96,000 people registered to vote on Election Day overall. They made up about 15 percent of the state’s turnout.

I can attest, the line was 50 deep at my precinct. The exit polls indicated Kerry was up by 17 points at 5 p.m. Yet when they FINALLY called the state for Kerry, he won by 1 point.

1. trouble is you do not know who they
voted for. Even if they were Repugs they would list Dem on the App.

2. In our town of 3800 registered voters, about 168 new registers on
11/2 ,90+ independent. The others slightly weighted to Dems.

3. The "State" wants to know...Yeah sure, more like Rove wants to know
Funny,a State that went for Kerry really, really needs to make sure EVERYTHING was done legally, meanwhile there sits Ohio...

4. In another post, someone claimed late registrants were Repugs
They thought they had been energized by RW radio hosts who heard the early exit poll result leaks.

5. To register, they would have had to have
proof of residency.
