Notice anything different about this AP statement about Dean?
"Dean has gained traction with his anti-Washington establishment campaign, which has proven costly for lawmakers such as Kerry and Gephardt."

Hmmmm?

(this is from a Kerry article, so I'm posting this on it's own. I don't want this to see like Kerry bashing--it isn't. I want to see if others notice this change by AP.)

1. It's a challenge to status quo
and it couldn't come at a better time.

I've heard Dean described as an outsider before, but more often than not he's called an "anti-war" candidate. This is a slight shift. He's now "anti-" something else.

I have a feeling there's about to be a significant switch in some of the Dean coverage. This is going to be the new "hook" from the press.

I don't know how to describe it...but you all know that I read a hell of a lot of news...and you just get signals that are hard to explain to others...hunches...there's something significant about the switch in this piece to "anti-Washington establishment" instead of the easier to write "anti-war" candidate. At least in the eyes of this one reporter it's more important that Dean is going against, as you say, the "status quo" than the fact he's been anti-war.

I doubt I'm explaining myself...but I think we're about to see a significant switch in rhetoric in Dean coverage.

Whether that will be good or not... who knows.

It's just me and my spidey-sense going off...dunno how to put it better than that.

3. It's more accurate. Accuracy is always a good thing, IMHO.
Although, I don't know for sure, yet, if this line of reasoning will be a positive for Dean and the Democratic Party or a negative.

I like the better accuracy, though.

4. Good! I hope the "press" is getting it that Dean is so much more
than "the anti-war" candidate which was very important to me but our Country is in Dire Straights, too!

5. LOL
Actually good, since joe sixpack is described as "anti-Washington establishment" more than "anti-war".

6. It's good: Dean is not a one-dimensional candidate.
He's antiwar, true. He is also a moderate. And he's anti-Washington-establishment. This will appeal to many voters. He's good on some Dem base issues, which, along with the antiwar stance, has had him portrayed as a liberal. He's not. I'm a liberal, but I recognize that a liberal likely cannot be elected in 2004. A good moderate is just fine with me. And did I mention that he's antiwar?
