Is anyone else not celebrating Christmas as a result
of the election? I am not as I finally woke up and realized there is no God and there is nothing to celebrate. I will continue to celebrate the good in life where I find it, and to express love to those I care about. But this is it for a phoney Holiday that makes Fundie Repugs rich!

10. I love the Pagan traditions, especially the tree.
Celebrate the winter solstice on Dec. 21. Our local Unitarian Universalist Church has a lovely ceremony with lots of music.

18. Gonna take you a while.
One year is way too soon not to feel the sorrow and dread as the date nears.

What did your mom want you to do when things felt too hard?

My mom's advice about grief is to find whatever does feel good and do it. This is the time to do what YOU need to feel better.

my boyfriend's father died two days before Christmas. I still celebrate Christmas because it was my mother's favorite and so to honor and remember her I put up decorations etc.O8) My boyfriend doesn't, his father didn't make to Christmas so it is too painful for him.

I have to admit it gets harder and harder every year to work up any enthusiasm or energy. At this moment I don't feel any spirit and I will just have to see if I can do anything at all. Right now just getting up every day is an effort and takes every ounce of strength I have. :-(

9. Goodness. Life goes on, my friend.
The sun’ll come out, tomorrow,
Bet your bottom dollar, that tomorrow,
There’ll be sun,

Just thinkin’ about, tomorrow,
Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow, till’ there’s none,

When I’m stuck with a day, that’s grey and lonely,
I just stick out my chin, and grin, and say,

Oh, the sun’ll come out tomorrow,
So you gotta’ hang on till’ tomorrow,
Come what may.

Tomorrow tomorrow, I love you tomorrow,
Your’e only a day away!

12. Yeah I am, but I'm not going to fall for the 9/11 politics
I remember right after 9/11 I went to Atlanta on a shopping spree. We were on the forefront of the consumer warfare!

Not this year... I have to keep it normal for the kids, but all grown-ups will be receiving gift certificates to Land's End. If you remember, they took out the full page ad against Bush right before the election.

Re-direct your support for those who support us... or buy a bunch of "Live Strong" bracelets to help cancer research... do good, but please don't "do nothing." You shouldn't let George take all the joy out of your life.

14. And they think I'm bitter.
I have a better idea.

Local and small businesspeople, and craftspeople, depend on Christmas for their survival. You're wrong to say this holiday only supports Republicans.

Don't buy imports or mallwear or foreign-made electronics.

Find your local crafts fair, or store, or someplace that isn't an identical mall shop, and help a struggling American to survive.

Or adopt an animal fated to die soon, and save one small life.

Celebrate not the religion, but the faith in tomorrow. Before Christians, this was the solstice festival, the insane confidence, in the middle of winter, that spring would come. The essence of this holiday, is that the darkest moment, the shortest daylight of the year, IS the moment to celebrate, to light up the darkness.

Our government has turned its back on us (except to spy and intrude), and we now have to support each other.

Okay, I can get behind a celebration like that. Please remember to post that periodically throughout the holiday season. I know I'll forget and need reminding. Light up the Darkness, let that be our "moral values".

so I've thought about making a little manger for it and designing a nativity scene for the front of my house this year. I've shown some photos to my dog of Poppy and Barbara and asked him to get busy working on the full cast of characters.

All holidays exist to remind me that I am considered a loser on the margins of society. Not that I think of myself that way, but that's the implicit message I get. On the upside, I never have a big list of people to buy for.

42. Of course I'm celebrating Christmas!
Oh - did you mean the religious holy day, or the capitalistic greed-fest?

A subdued Christmas would be welcomed by me (and many others) to focus on the meaning rather than the presents.

And economically, I am sure that by NEXT year, many people won't be able to afford anything, without plunging further into debt. Oh, yeah, there's that "faith-based economics," eh?

At Christmas, we light candles and proclaim that hope has come into the world. I cannot imagine this world without hope.
