More on the "NH Recount" - Doesn't seem to be true
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 06:50 PM by stupidgit
First, I live in NH, and this was the first I had heard of this. I can't find any news report that corroborates it, and last I looked, the State Department doesn't work on Sunday.

There ARE recounts to go on, but they're limited to the House and Senate races. Perhaps that's what they're talking about, but nothing I can find about the presidential race.

The two major papers are the award-winning Concord Monitor, which is usually quite balanced and trustworthy, and The Union Leader (a right-wing rah-rah God & Country newspaper in the state, if ever there was one). The Union Leader does say this in today's issue...

Both the request and the check have to be filed with the Secretary of State's Office by 5 p.m. yesterday by law.

Assistant Attorney General Orville "Bud" Fitch said "At this point, we don't consider this a valid request."
http://www.theunionleader.com/articles_showfast.html?article=46674

It goes on to say three state Senate and 12 House races recounts were filed by the deadline, and those recounts will begin next week.

It is not clear at this time whether or not those races involved eVoting machines or not, and even if they did, it may not matter if only the prez race was tinkered with.

In NH, by statute, recount requests in writing must be made by the first Friday following the election, must be paid for in advance, and if properly filed, recounts will begin the following Wednesday.

New Hampshire to evaluate Election Day voter registration policy

By Associated Press

MANCHESTER - The state wants to know how many people registered to vote in New Hampshire on Election Day without being able to prove they live in the state or have U.S. citizenship.
The secretary of state’s office is planning to send letters asking the question to voter registration officials Monday.

The inquiry is focusing on the "domicile affidavit" or "citizenship affidavit" people can sign when they register. Voters who can’t prove they are citizens or that they live at a particular address are allowed to sign an affidavit swearing the information is true. The penalty for giving false information is up to one year in prison.

But Jim Merrill, a New Hampshire Republican Party lawyer, said the system invites abuse.

4. Not the same thing though...

Glad to hear the Republican Party is interested in curbing abuses of the election system though.

Nader/Camejo Challenge Electronic Voting Results in New Hampshire

Washington, DC:The Nader/Camejo campaign has filed a challenge to the voting results in New Hampshire after receiving numerous complaints from voting rights activists. Below is Nader's letter to New Hampshire requesting a recount. Also, below is Nader's view on electronic voting without a paper trial. In addition, the Nader/Camejo campaign offered our campaign to poll watchers who wanted to be credentialed to be inside to monitor electronic voting. Hundreds of democracy activists in Maryland working with TrueVoteMD.org were credentialed to monitor polling through the Populist Party which was created by Nader-Camejo supporters in Maryland

6. Yeah but, isn't there a precedence in NH...
for exactly this issue? I heard that a couple of years ago someone challenged the results and they too did not get their check in on time due to the check getting jammed in the fax, or so they said... I believe they fought the rejection and won their recount... So there's still hope?
