Ok. Not that it matters but I am 'officially' pulling for *Dean*
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 04:48 PM by matcom
I have kept an open mind all along...until now. i have contemplated and considered all of the options.

not that you all care but let me tell you why.

I will NOT bash Kerry (and he will DEFINATELY get my vote should he be the nominee). Hell, i volunteered for his Senate reelection.

I will NOT bash any other candidate (except Lieberman, whom I have bashed for years consistently).

THIS is what put me over the edge and caused my tossed coin to come down with Deans 'head-up'......

#1 - I have been DAMNED Impressed with the fact that DEAN has recognized the online 'movement' (NO repuke or Dem has had the balls to until Dean)

#2 - I am DAMNED impressed that while Dean may NOT be a long haired hippy "traditional liberal", he IMHO at least recognizes that we are out here and are a PART of that BASE. He is listening. Everyone else (yes so far Kerry included) has taken great pains to avoid us and our "radical issues". They distance themselves when ever a RW talking head brings us up. SORRY, 200k of us in D.C. last October protesting should have changed all that. It didn't apparently EXCEPT to Dean

#3 - The "Progressive" attitude he has twords his supporters and his campaign. This is perhaps the TRUEST 'grass roots' (national) campaign in my 35 year memory. (correct me if i am wrong) :)

#4 - {the icing on the cake - happened JUST now} - Kerry's campaign manager was just on Crossfire. When asked "why now" (his decision to wait until now to make it official) he said, "Democratic voters are JUST starting to care about this election so it was important to announce early" - paraphrasing of course.

Sorry. Yes, I realize we here at DU are a passionate (and crazy) bunch BUT.... thousands, millions, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS have marched, written, phoned, screamed, donated and sacrificed since the selection! NOBODY has acknowledged us (except in a small way) DEAN. just starting to care? JUST FUCKING STARTING TO CARE?????? BULLFUCKINGSHIT! period.

there you have it. don't attempt to bait me into slandering any of the others. i won't do it.

for now. MATCOM GOES DEAN! if i have to make another choice in the future, any but one would get my vote.

again. not that you care :)

2. I'd like to extend on your point #1
Not only has he recognized the internet, he has embraced as the powerfully democratizing force that it can be. One of the most important reasons I support Dean is his method of fundraising. The fact that during the last "bat" drive, the average donation was around $50 speaks volumes to me.

30. When Dean was here a few months ago....
..I spoke with his campaign coordinator and she said that the internet would be primary tool in the campaign, that they had people who's job it was to scour the internet and learn how they could use it.

That really impressed me.

Now if I can only get rid of *'s spam email I keep getting.

3. Exactly!
I am not on the Dean wagon, will be if he gets the nod. That statement by Kerrys manager really pissed me off. My poor sons ears turned blue after I heard that. Better to have someone who knows we are there. Where has Kerry been anyway? We certainly have not been silent. Good choice.

31. "Charcoal burner's pasta"
Carbonara is a pasta dish tossed with beaten egg, parmesan or pecorino cheese, and some kind of smoked/cured pork (ham, bacon, pancetta, etc.).

Good stuff. I have about 20 different recipes for it and I can't pick a favorite. :)

19. As I recall, you posted a classic comment by your dad
(who like my own is, shall we say, connected).

If I can paraphrase, it went something like this:

"Dean didn't make the moment; the movement made Dean."

I love it when they offer up little gems like that.

9. You have my blessing.
I know you didn't ask for it nor do you care, but you have it anyway. :-) Why? Because you said what I couldn't exactly articulate about the fact that Democrats have been vetting, contributing to and supporting their candidates since the last election. I think any candidate who doesn't recognize this is really out of touch with the rank and file voters.

:toast:

Even today Kerry, like all those in Congress (except Kucinich) tip-toe around Bush, speak in polite niceties..."I disagree with the President." While Dean comes right out with fighting words. He is the only one who names KEN LAY AS SMIRK'S BUDDY in his speeches.

I care! ;-)

15. I'm not there yet.....
but am finding myself paying a lot
more attention to Dean lately. Don't
see how one can help but pay attention
because the man is doing so much that
is working. He's making the rest of
the pack seem stodgy and rather
out of tune, or worse not intuitive
enough to build a winning platform.
He seems less calculating and more direct,
I like that in a leader.

As I said I am not there yet, but.....

16. Matcom -- Tomorrow is MEET UP -- go sign up and go!!
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 04:38 PM by Eloriel
I'm sure you're right about the "35 years" but it goes way beyond that. The numbers Dean is pulling, where his supporters are coming from (hint: everywhere!!) defies anything that's happened ever. ALL of it is totally unprecedented.

Here's a post I made about what this campaign offers.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=250303

It's hard to articulate about this campaign, but I strongly encourage you to go sign up for the campaign (and the MeetUps too -- separate sign-ups), and to read the blog periodically, esp. the comments.

http://www.deanforamerica.com (Link to Official Blog at top of each page.)

MeetUps, btw, went over 100,000 earlier today. We're adding about 1K a day to the MeetUps. That's pretty remarkable too. THESE are grassroots folks willing to work on the campaign NOW, locally. Tonight is MeetUp night -- so if you wanna go, get on over there and sign up!!

Eloriel

20. That's the thing about Dean
I'm about as much of a liberal-libertarian as anybody can possibly be. I disagree with Dean on many things, but there is no candidate in the field who excites me like Dean does.

My wife agrees and if anything, she's more liberal than I am!

Dean is a pit bull.

18. Yes, we do care & what's you've stated is exactly right about Dean
At first, I was gung ho over John Kerrey, and he's still among the top of my choices, but Dean listens to us, and that is important after what this country has suffered through. I've never known such frustration in my lifetime as I've experienced in the last three years with Bush in as president. It's as if there are no laws that apply to him, and he can just bull-doze his way through anything.
Dean has the mental strength to stand up to this regime, and will make a good president.

and take this opportunity to say that I've decided to come out for Dean in a big way too. I've been a Dean believer for quite awhile and I'm making it official today too. If, for some reason, Dean doesn't get the nod, I have no problem voting for whoever does. I was gonna get an "Anybody But Bush" avi, but I'm going for a Dean one, then I'm off to find a meetup in the Nashville area. Feels good, doesn't it?
